Okay, not the most competetive piece, but for themed battles the Desert Skiff can be fun. But it's incredibly had to find for a reasonable cost. So here's an alternative to any model makers out there, Games Workshop's new Dark Eldar Raider.

They're not that difficult to put together, heck if I can anyone can. :D

I actually play Warhammer 40K, this is mine. Although mine is a 'looted' version for my pirate theme Ork army.

Do note that mine has some extra Orky bits on it that don't come with the actual model. But I really think it could make a great Desert Skiff alternative, especially for anyone stuggling to find one.

Would that really be that much cheaper than a SWM Desert Skiff? I had thought the 40K stuff was rather expensive many times. Still though, a very good alternative.

I know Lackey has been buying the new Dark Eldar to get into 40K, and he's been using some of the smaller 1-man speeder bikes in our SW RPG game. They make for pretty sweet looking smuggler's swoops or such.

Oooh... hadn't thought about doing that. :)

I'm finding Games Workshop prices to be not as bad as most make out. Price wise the skiffs were about £25, the Raider is £20, £18 online. But it's quite difficult to get a Desert Skiff, at least in the UK.

I play 40k too, and have to say that it's a toss up. In some cases you break even, after all consider you have to buy the kit and then buy paint and glue for it and build it. So there are time issues involved with a 40k kit that is a non-issue for SWM figs. But I agree that it could work if you really were in a pinch.

Oh and the Orks look great on it, "Red means it goes faster..." lets hope the Dark Elder have different colored lights.

I'm noting that in the UK 40k is cheaper than in the states, I could be wrong but it does often seem that way. Although with the exchange rate and the UK pound being worth about double the US dollar could account for that.

At least there are some alternatives for play and maybe future v-set vehicle proxies.
