Image
Figure: Chewbacca of Hoth
Faction: Rebel
Cost: 22
Hit Points: 100
Defense: 17
Attack: +8
Damage: 20
Set #: 04/60
Rarity: Very Rare
Special Abilities:
Unique
Wookie
Deadeye - On this character's turn, if he doesn't move, he gets +10 Damage.
Gunner +10 - Can combine fire with adjacent allies who have Mounted Weapon, granting +10 Damage.
Industrial Repair 20 - Replaces attacks: touch; remove 20 damage from 1 character with Mounted Weapon.
Chewbacca of Hoth Strategy Tips
Team this big furry dude up with a big Mounted Combat fig, like an X-1 Viper Droid or Rebel Snowspeeder. He can either boost their attacks or fix 'em up if they get blasted. He's also solid at attacking on his own in case some snot-faced Sith with a lightsaber gets all in-your-face with the shooty fig Chewbacca's teamed up with. For bonus points, make that wookie roar noise each time Chewie takes a turn!

Figure: Snowtrooper
Faction: Imperial
Cost: 7
Hit Points: 20
Defense: 16
Attack: +4
Damage: 10
Set #: 39/60
Rarity: Common
Snowtrooper Strategy Tips
They're cheap fodder, put them in a squad with a solid commander to power them up or they'll fall down faster than a skinny kid in a high wind.

Chewie kinda sucks. He's the cheapest one yet, but chewbacca RH is better, I think. This one is more specialized to deal with an X-1 or whatever, but he just isn't that good all around.

Wow, a 22 point Chewbacca. For 2 less points than the Rebel Storm version, you lose any chance to hit anyone (Momentum) and gain some interaction with Mounted Weapon pieces. Not exactly a chase VR, methinks.

Most interesting thing is the Wookiee special ability. Which commander in this set could affect Wookiees?

Chewie's one to show all those "Power Creep" doomsayers. lol

Thanks for the information. I am grateful for the Kidzworld previews, but I wonder why the Snowtrooper was chosen for a preview by Wizards?

As for Chewy, why doesn't he have draw fire? It is the perfect on-screen fit for an ability as we saw him taking fire away from Han from the Probe Droid in ESB. His Gunner +10 and Industrial Repair 20 are neat, but I still think Chewy, Rebel Hero is still the better jack-of-all trades figure.

that's the first thing I thought also.

Agreed on RH being the better all-around version. Who knows - maybe the rebel troop cart will have something interesting but be fragile, making IR20 something to consider?

the Wookie special Ability makes me wonder if Hoth Han will have some sort of synergy with wookies.

I hope the Golan will be worth it.

Don't the rules make calling him a wookie redundant? I seem to recall somewhere (rules glossary?) that Chewbacca & Tarful were definied as wookies.

That could be. Didn't think about that.

And they didn't have to give Chewie, Enraged Wookie the SA because it's in his name.

Oh well. It was a nice thought.

I like Chewy. He is more of the "Shooter" version since he has gunner and not Momentum. I was thinking of trying out an X-1 squad so this version will be in it too.

As for the Snowtrooper, what a waste of a preview. Why show this piece and not a "new" one?

I just posted on Wizard's site wondering if the Wookie SA is to help define the targets for the new Wookie Hunter ATST. I have a feeling it is going to get a nice bonus to hit wookies. If so, it would stink considering how much I like the Wookie FFs.

That sounds plausible.

Good thing the AT-ST will be huge.

Hopefully it will suck against anything else, then you won't have to worry about too many people playing it against your WFF. lol

I like the fact it's a low cost Chewie. Low cost support is always welcome.

Yes it is.

Also, I like the fact that this Chewie is specialized.

Chewie, RH brings a lot to the table, but almost everyone uses him mostly for Bodyguard.

Plus, not too many 100 HP figs for only 22 points.

The 'Wookiee' SA on there is no different than the 'Ewok' SA on Wicket's card. It's simply to define that he counts as a Wookiee (typically for things like Yoda, JM's CE). Otherwise before, they always just put 'Unique (counts as a Wookiee)' on the card. So, I'd say there's a pretty good bet that the new AT-ST will have an anti-Wookiee ability. Which isn't too bad, since it'll be kind of nice to have something to counter the WFFs at the 200 pt level. Those things are nasty if you have that many of them.

His SAs are certainly interesting. At 22 points, I'll have to see what Luke's Speeder, the Troop Cart, and the Atgar end up being, in order to decide whether Rebel Hero would still be the better choice. My thinking is that RH can still Bodyguard and Repair 10 on those.

Gunner +10 is really cool though. That's exactly what was needed for the mounted weapon/gunner interaction. I've always hated those two SAs as I think they're really kind of stupid. Having the Gunner grant some extra damage is pretty cool.

Snowtrooper..... ::smacks forehead::

I'm guessing WotC wanted to reserve any previews of the video game characters to their own site, so I can understand not giving kidzworld any of those ones. But at least they could've given them one of the other Ugos or the Mynock, or the Rebel Marksman or something. :(

Chewie is OK, specialized enough to differentiate from other chewies. He's not awe-inspiring, but he gets a new twist on Gunner. He's also very cheap 100 hp.

I can see using him once in a while in a gimmick squad. Maybe in a rebel X-1 squad using Kazdan to bring in the sep support.

His stats are presentable, for only 22 points he has 17 def, 100 hp and can do 30 damage on occasion at an underwhelming +8.

You deny that this chewie is better then the RS one? Closest in cost and yet this one has the exact same statline, deadeye instead of momentum, and industrial repair/gunner 10 instead of cleave.

Yes, I think that this chewie is better then the RS one, shows creep over it, and it underlies my general statement: RS-RotS statlines/cost suck compared to the the current ones. The 'price adjustment' that melee has undertaken should not have made this chewie better then the RS one.

How about Chewie of K? Do you think deadeye and a +1 to attack, 20 extra HP, and industrial repair/gunner 10 is worth the 3 less points compared to momentum and double? I think so.

RH is still superior but this chewie is 25% cheaper a figure. Comparing the two are like comparing the new Iggy to the Old... their prices are just too different to directly compare.

I like the sculpt and paint job on Chewie. I think he will seem better stat-wise when the rest of the Rebel faction stats are known (especially the huges with mounted weapons). I like the fact that he can be used for themed combat as well. For those who strictly play tournaments, it is one less VR to acquire. For collectors and RPGers, very nice.

As for the snowtrooper, I think it defies the definition of preview. Third sculpt has the same stats as the other two, big deal. Would definitely have rather seen any other grunt preview. Not much of a bang for them to end their previews for the set.
