Well, I just got the new Civilization game. Taking me a bit to get used to it, since I sort of skipped IV, but I am loving the changes they made. Hexes alone changes things a lot. The combat changes are great, adds a great new layer of tactics to the game. I'm still adjusting to all the changes, but I think I have my addiction till TOR comes out.

Did they get rid of the combining units into an army thing? That was a feature in, I think, IV, and I really didnt like it.

Have you ever played Alpha Centauri? I know its old, but its still one of my favorite games of that type.

So worth picking up? I was shopping on Amazon today and saw alot of negative reviews, so decided to wait a bit.

I have been playing quite a bit of Civ Revolution on the PS3. I didn't expect it to be as good as it is! Not as deep as the PC versions, but fun enough. I didn't really play too much of Civ 4 (always had issues with lag on my computer), but I certainly played Civ 3 to death :)

Yeah, only 1 unit per tile, no matter what. I can see where it gets negative rules. It is a VERY different civilization game. Like I said, I went from III to V, it takes some getting used to. It takes out a lot of what I'm used to. I think a lot of the negative reviews come from that it is so different. But I am enjoying it.

I started playing this today. I played my first Civ game when I tried 4.

this version is equally in depth as the previous iteration. The graphics have been updated, but I don't think it added anything to the game, I found some of the animations time-consuming and annoying.

Overall the game play is spot on, I just finished a major conflict with the Babylonians, taking their capital, and leaving them with only 3 coastal cities.

Some of the setup options are limited. I saw less map types than 4 had, but I like the addition of City States (AI cities not trying to win) and the AI's decision making is close to logical. :)

A good game, but it does suck you in and absorb your time.

Awesome game! They brought some of the music from Civ 3 back too!

I can't wait till Monday. Free Civilization: The Mongols!!! Not paying $5 for the Bablyonians, though.

I'm finding I'm a bit paranoid now. I got ganged up on by 2 Civs out of the blue, forcing me to switch gears. Luckily, it was an easy setting, so I was able to quickly regain military footing, but I learned my lesson. I am keeping a military available, no matter which condition I am going for. Sneak attack by Ghandi, sheesh.

And I thought the only time you'd see indians sneaking up on you was on westerns. Go figure.

Has anyone played the original Civilization board game? Such an awesome game, especially when you get to trading cards and you sneak another player Plague/Barbarian Hordes/etc and hope like hell you don't snicker as you do it. What's even more hilarious is when each of you exchange something and you look each other dead in the eyes...man, that takes willpower not to make an effect to that.

Expansion pack releases tomorrow. 9 Civilizations, More units (better upgrade chain for Archers, whoo), Religion, Espionage, tweaked military conflicts (lasts longer). The game just got a lot deeper.
