"/FILM has learned that Ray Park (Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, X-Men) has been cast as Snake Eyes in director Stephen Sommers' G.I. Joe, coming to theaters on August 7, 2009. Master ninja Snake Eyes is one of the original members and a key character in "G.I. Joe."

Park joins Sienna Miller in the live-action film based on the Hasbro toys, comic book and TV series.

Paramount is targeting a mid-February start date. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) is producing alongside Hasbro's Brian Goldner."

Okay, this news is just too cool! Ray Park isn't much of an actor in my book, but who needs to act when you're playing a mute martial artist!

Actually, the couple of movies where Ray has had speaking lines (X-men, Ecks vs. Sever) I thought he did quite well. I actually love his character in Ecks vs Sever.

Was never a big GI Joe fan. I always thought it was too cartoony and prefered Sgt. Rock comics.

I did have a couple of GI Joes back in the day though and I am curious about the movie.

After I got bored with the superhero stuff GI Joe and Transformers were the only comics I read. I always wanted Hasbro to make figures of the October Guard characters.

Snake Eyes was one of my favorite Joe characters back int he day. I didn't actually watch the show that much although I had a near endless collection of the figs and vehicles. When I had my battles they could actually hit each other. Remember what a big deal it was for Duke to be put in a coma? Oh my god someone actually got hit!!!!!!

I had (well still have down in the basement somewhere) tons of the toys and figures. I've been peeking at some of the reissue stuff when ever I'm in the action figure aisle of a store looking for new Star Wars figures. I still have the entire run of the comic bagged and boarded in a comic storage box too.

I didn't realize there was a GI Joe movie coming out. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle...

Maybe nobody like GI Joe anymore, but I grew up with that as well as Star Wars. I found this funny info too:

Me too. GI Joe and Transformers were a major part of my after school entertainment in the mid eighties. When this site first started I suggested GI Joe as the subject for the next custom contest.

I was most excited about Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy) as Zartan!

I was afraid they would ruin G.I.Joe until it said it was an 'origins' story and then listed the actors. Really hoping it somewhat follows the comic (Stormshadow/Snake Eyes with the Hard Master/Soft Master story).

Gentlemen, prepare to drool! I remember Scarlett being the HOT ONE back then, but this takes the cake!!!

Well now... This may not end up being the bad movie I expected it to be after all
