Almost exactly 10 years ago we got news that the BBC were going to relaunch "Doctor Who". It was damn exciting and bloody terrifying at the same time. How much would they change, would they care what the fans had done with the novels, comics and audios in the intervening years where the BBC was happy to sell licences and didn't really care what was done with them. Slowly news of casting and production drizzled down, fans were worried. They had cast an ex-popsinger child star as the companion, this couldn't be right! They had got the police box the wrong shape, my god the crime! No Doctor Who fans here? Does anyone remmember what hope and fear tasted like in the same bite? Turns out if you go to the trouble to want to make something like this you probably want it to succeed. Four Billion dollars buys a lot of careful. So at the moment the taste of hope overpowers the taste of fear but I'm sure that will ebb and flow as we hear different bits of news (official or otherwise). If the gap between ROTS and ANH is a guide then you get to keep the thrawn stuff as cannon. Some bits of the EU might get ignored, others might just be tweeked a little timeline wise. I'm excited....for now.... |
