The Sith are again rising and this time really seething with force lightning energy, to announce the Strategicon LAX Convention "Gateway 2013", which people have been coming to for many years, will be sponsoring 2 SWM events on Sunday, September 01, 2013, 12:00noon-9:00pm, at the Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel , located just a few minutes from LAX.
Event # 1: 12:00noon-4:00pm: SWM new virtual set #6, "Command of the Galaxy" sealed booster draft tournament. Each participant will receive 2 random boosters from the new set. From the 2 boosters you receive, make a 150pt team, faction rules do not apply! Gambit will be enforced. 60 minute rounds. All maps are allowed, except Mustafar, Korriban, or any of the open plains snow covered maps. All partcipants will get their own 60 card "Command of the Galaxy" set, and the 12 card mini set "Vehicles of War", to keep for their collections. The new set is unbelievable and again does what Wizards of the Coast couldn't do; make a more balanced game, and help the other factions to actually be playable! Arca Jeth, Jedi Master, Darth Sion, Lord of Pain, Cin Drallig, Jedi Battlemaster, Darth Sidious, Supreme Chancellor, Luke Skywalker, Hero of Endor, Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith, Jedi Master K'Kruhk, Sugi, Shae Vizla, and Commander Tsalok. Introducing many new SW expanded universe characters, special abilities, Force powers, and cool commander effects, all factions are represented! With many new special abilities, Force powers, and characters never done yet in SWM, there are many new elements to keep the game exciting. The new set is again breaking new ground for our beloved game and will undoubtedly improve and change the game we all have come to love. You do not want to miss out on this exciting new set!

The Battle of Hoth was a major event and a major victory for the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War. The battle was an offensive by the Galactic Empire aimed at destroying the Rebel Alliance's Echo Base hidden on the remote arctic world Hoth. The base's location was compromised when a viper probe droid deployed by Darth Vader landed on Hoth. When the fleet commanded by Admiral Kendal Ozzel entered the Hoth system, the Admiral inadvertently alerted the Alliance of the Imperial's presence, giving the Rebels time to prepare for the necessary evacuation and raise the planetary shield.
The Imperial attack force consisted of primarily AT-AT walkers, commanded by Major General Maximillian Veers. His army was tasked with destroying Echo Base's main power generator to allow orbital bombardment of the planet. Spearheading the defense of the generator was the elite Rogue Squadron, manning snowspeeders, commanded by Luke Skywalker, renowned for being the pilot who destroyed the first Death Star. The snowspeeders did not have the necessary firepower to bring down the walkers, so Skywalker suggested an alternative tactic to trip up the walkers with the tow cables issued to every snowspeeder.
Despite the efforts by Rogue Squadron, the power generator was eventually destroyed by Veers. The remaining base personnel proceeded to evacuate, as the 501st Legion, led by Darth Vader, entered the base. It would prove a major victory for the Galactic Empire, and would heavily stymie the Rebels. The Alliance's loss was so great at the time, at least one member of the 501st Legion considered the Battle of Hoth to be the end of the rebel movement.
Event #2 will take place from 5:00-9:00pm, we will be recreating the the great "Battle of Hoth", which was arguably on the best action battle sequences in Star Wars history, not to mention movie history. For this battle, it will be a 1000pt vs 1000pts. The armies will be already be pre-set and the minis will be brought already. All you have to do is show up and we will be dividing everyone into Rebel or Imperial and designate who is commanding the minis in the battle. Definately will be an amazing battle that will be tons of fun, with random occurrences, so you won't want to miss out! For those of you that don't know, Strategicon, is the proud Con that is So Cals finest gaming convention! It takes place Labor Day Weekend, Presidents Day Weekend, and Memorial Day weekend, every year. Each holiday weekend has a special Con name, and Labor Day Weekend is known as Gateway. Please join us in battle as we slash, Force push, Force lightning, Force grip, Sith sorcery, Force whirlwind, blast, grenade, missles, pulse cannon, atlatyl, razorbug, and thudbug the day away.
