Jedi_Master vs thereisnotry

thereisnotry's squad:

--Kaan Bomb--
62 Darth Revan, Sith Lord
36 Atton "Jaq" Rand
36 Lord Kaan
27 Lobot
16 Dr. Evazan, Galactic Criminal
14 Exar Kun, Dark Force Spirit
6 Mouse Droid x2
3 Rodian Brute
(200pts. 9 activations)

Jedi_Master's squad:
23 Captain Panaka
21 The Dark Woman
20 Captain Tarpals
16 Dr. Evazan, Galactic Criminal
16 Queen Amidala
15 Momaw Nadon
70 Gungan Artillerist x7
8 Mas Amedda
5 Salacious Crumb
6 Ugnaught Demolitionist x2
(200pts. 17 activations)

I won the map roll so we played on Asteroid Base, and JM let me set up. I chose the left, because at least I could advance there without being open to massive Cesta death on the first round. In the end of the first round I ran Revan 20 squares to be near the center of the map. I let him go first then on my turn opened a door and ran Revan into the Landing Pad area, where 9 of his figs were, including Tarpals, Mas, Queenie, and 3 Artillerists. Revan swapped out for Kaan, who blew up on my next turn, taking out a bunch of pieces, including the Queen. Then Atton drew a very tight LOS on Tarpals for the kill, and the rest was pretty much cleanup. Once Kaan blew up the odds were heavily in my favor...once I dropped Tarpals it was over.

thereisnotry wins 220-49

I still call BS on that LOS on Tarpals, but yeah, thought bomb whenever you feel like in the second round when nothing in my squad can survive it kinda blows, a LOT. Not sure whose wonderful idea it was to make that mini but they should be dragged out behind a barn and put out of their misery :saber:

As long as the line does not touch a wall, it's a legal LOS.

There's a difference between a line running alongside a wall the whole way (ie, where the proposed line of sight IS the line of the wall), and a line coming close to a wall. The former is not a legal LOS, but the latter is.

Kaan's a risk though; he's relatively mediocre against Vong or Droids when he can't use his big Thought Bomb force power. If there weren't Vong or Droids around, he'd have to cost quite a bit more.

I was more looking at the +16 attack for 40 an attack with backlash when he attacks a more expensive piece (37 points or over) and bandon is in a sith squad (a common phenomenon). Not to mention the illusion FP. That alone should have him cost what he costs. The guaranteed 40 damage against living enemies (possible 80) when he dies (assuming no vong/thrawn/pel) or whenever he is in the opportune location should put him a bit higher. I can understand the replaces turn and the can not be prevented parts but the "or when defeated" is what bothers me. Then again, most of the 30 point v-set pieces are in the OP range so I guess it will balance out in the long run.

"Line of sight exists if the attacking player can trace a line from any part of the attacker's space to any part of the defender's space without crossing or touching a wall. This means that a traced line doesn't provide line of sight if it even nicks the corner or runs along the edge of a wall"

No matter how I looked at it, it was on the corner. It wasn't and isn't worth arguing about though as I can't see your screen and I had already lost over half my squads firepower from Kaan. Still made me grumpy though :fight:

Jedi_master versus me (greentime)

Jedi_master:
--Vong are Bad--
63 Warmaster Tsavong Lah
27 Nen Yim
40 Yuuzhan Vong Hunter on Quednak x2
19 Yomin Carr
18 Praetorite Vong Priest
15 Yammosk War Coordinator
11 Advance Agent, Officer
6 Ugnaught Demolitionist x2

greentime:
--Skywalker Melange--
56 Jaina Solo, Sword of the Jedi
33 Jacen Solo, Jedi Knight
25 Leia Skywalker, Jedi Knight
23 General Wedge Antilles
22 R2-D2 and C-3PO, Galactic Heroes
16 Dr. Evazan, Galactic Criminal
10 Luke Skywalker, Force Spirit
8 R7 Astromech Droid
6 Ugnaught Demolitionist x2

Jedi won map and stuck us on Muunilist. I let him choose the control room side and set up in the open like a moron on the pillar side. First round he fired a couple of plasma eels at my dumb self, but between Leia rerolls and luck only Jaina, Artoopio, and the R7 took damage (20 each). I advanced into gambit between the columns and waited the galloping assault. Second round he won init and send in a quednak. Fortunately for me it ended up missing Jaina, missing Artoopio (huge!), and getting parried by Jacen. It did put 30 on Leia and kill my ugnaughts and R7, though. I killed it with opp attacks from, well, all my Jedi. Dr. E healed Leia and I pushed forward a little bit while the other quednak went after Wedge (who was standing in the corridor to block it), hitting the gallop but missing with the followup.

Third round I won init and put 40 damage on the quednak with Jaina (missing an attack). Tsavong Lah ran in and killed poor Artoopio, taking some opp attacks to do it. The quednak took Wedge down to 10 health, then got killed by Jacen. At that point it was Tsavong and the best of the rest against most of my squad, so they basically whittled him down over a couple of rounds. Also Dr. Evazan and Wedge both made avoid defeat rolls, without even needing the rerolls from Leia. It got a little ridiculous for a while.

Final score 225-130.

Yeah, those quednaks failed so hard. The one on wedge needed anything but a 1 to hit and potentially kill, 1, the one on Rpo needed anything but a 1 to kill, 1. Tsavong "killed" wedge and Dr evazan 2 times a piece and it never stuck. Even with the opportune initial placement, re-rolling saves and parry vs quednaks is a bit to much for the vong. That and the crit on the first quednak from leia and the two on lah ended it in a tattered wreck for the vong.

thereisnotry vs obikenobi1

thereisnotry's squad
--Sabers 'n Guns--
51 Yoda on Kybuck
47 General Skywalker
33 Captain Rex
27 Lobot
23 Captain Panaka
9 R2-D2, Astromech Droid
8 Mas Amedda
(198pts, 7 acts)

Obikenobi1's squad
--Death Shot Conglomorate--
31 Tyber Zann
24 Zann Consortium Defiler
23 Mon Mothma
22 Tonnika Sisters
21 Admiral Yularen
21 Han Solo, Gambler
18 Bomo Greenbark
9 R2-D2, Astromech Droid
8 Mas Amedda
5 Rodian Diplomat
5 Salacious Crumb
5 Spaarti Clone Trooper Demolitionist
8 Peace Brigade Thug x2
(200pts. 14 activations)

I chose 4 Brutes and Salacious Crumb and an Uggie, and Obikenobi chose to steal my Salacious and a Brute rather than keeping the 2 Caamasi Nobles he had brought with Tyber; it turned out that wasn't a good idea since he needed the diplomat wall to protect himself. I won the map roll so we played on Smuggler's Base, with him choosing the right side. I set up 2nd and placed R2/Yoda in a spot where Yoda could get a game-changing gallop already in the first round if I won init. I did win init, and towed Yoda up, 26 squares away from Obi's Mas Amedda. He spun 2 figs, and then Yoda charged in and killed 26pts of figs, including Mas, but taking 60dmg on AoOs and DeathShots. This changed the game, since Obi now had to keep his guys clustered at the back and unable to safely approach gambit. After this, it was a matter of wearing down his figs bit by bit, while also gathering gambit. Eventually Obi rolled Reserves with Mothma and brought in JarJar. He ran JarJar up and made a bunch of saves, but eventually died to Rex's twin pistols of doom. The next round, Yoda charged around to kill off Mothma and Bomo, and that was the end, since Gambit that round put me at exactly 200pts. Very fun game, thanks Obi!

Final score: thereisnotry wins, 200-87

Obikenobi1 vs. DieAndBeMetal

Obikenobi1 wins.

Map: Asteroid Base
Score: 204-85

Obikenobi's squad:

--Darth Darkness--
48 Darth Zannah
38 The Huntress
36 Darth Maladi
27 Darth Bandon
27 Lobot
14 Exar Kun, Dark Force Spirit
5 Caamasi Noble
5 Salacious Crumb

(200pts. 8 activations)

DieAndBeMetal's squad:

27 Lobot
20 Whorm
20 T-Series Tact droid
36 A-Series assassinsX2
15 Battle Droid Sergeant
15 Geno Overseer
12 Gha Nacht
10 San Hill
9 Poggle
8 Battle Droid Officer
6 UggieX2
20 Geno DroneX10
2 Mouser 200 pts.

24 acts before lobot. (reserves were 2 mice and a IG-86)

When I saw DieAndBeMetals squad, I though “oh great, an auto-loss for me”. But I continued anyways, cause I wanted to see how many points I could muster before getting destroyed completely. I won map roll, so to make things a little easier for me, I choose to play on Asteroid Base, thus making it more crowded for his drones. I brought in a Duro's Scout, Figrin Dian, and an uggie demo for my reinforcements. He brought in 2 mice and a IG-86. DieAndBeMetal waaayyy out-activated me. A small glimmer of hope happened in the second round once I got my forces in place. He used the CE on his tactical droid to fire at Zannah with twin for 40 dmg a hit. I was thinking “ouch this is going to hurt”. He misses the first attack, and hits with the second. I rolled SSM and rolled a 19. So the A-series got 40 on him and The Huntress cleared him away the following turn with a GMA while spending a FP to move 2 extra. I also moved my duro's scout into position to gt a crazy shot off on one of his drones to set off a chain reaction to kill his overseer, battle droid leiutenant and 3 drones. I needed a 12 to hit. I rolled a 14! And then....the Duro's shot at fame was obliterated. His drone rolled a 16 with poggles CE. So no explosion. The Duro's died shortly after from a twin attack by his tactical droid. I was very determined to take advantage of his leiutenant and overseer being adjacent to one another. So I risked a lot and ran maladi up and burst lighting on a drone, which set up a clear los for Darth Bandon to force grip 2 his overseer and set up the chain reaction the duro's had hoped to achieve. None of his drones survived via poggles CE and I put a hammerblow into DieAndBeMetals squad. His double attack gone, and his damage output reduced, Maladi survived the ensuing onslaught of attacks from his second A-series and his IG-86. She had 10 health left at this point. I moved Zannah up 8 squares with a forcepoint and then lightsaber assaulted his A-series droid to 20 HP. Next round, I killed his A-series and his IG-86 and thus began the bloodiest cleanup I've ever done. DieAndBeMetal managed to crit quite afew times with his drones, his uggies and with his BDO and Tactical Droid. Lets just say, at the end of the game, I had an originally full health Huntress and Darth Bandon at 20hp each. That was kinda scary. Zannah didn't take any damage all game thanks to Force Bubble for negating the SD 20's. It was a very good game and one I totally didn't expect to win. I was suprised at how well my squad held up against overwhelming odds, not to mention activations. DieAndBeMetal played very well and it was a very fun match.

ROund 2 i outacted and got Kaan into the middle of his guys and blew up hitting everyone except veregere. After that it was mop up for Revan and Jaq.

Map: Smugglers Base

Obi and I had a rematch, as our original matched was left unresolved. We used the same squads as noted above and played on the same map, with the same side choices, I took left. Only difference was this time for Tyber Bribery I brought in a Camaasi Noble instead of the 2 Brutes as I had him outactivated handily anyway, and Diplomats seem to give Obi fits.

On Smugglers Base control of the aptly named "Control Room" middle Gambit room is essential. This room is very small and squads tend to get right on top of each other pretty quick. This is just how HK-47 the Disruptive Droid likes it. Storm Commandos go down from him in one shot with ABM on, therefore it was important for me to find a way to keep my distance so this squad could do what it does best: put out insane amounts of massive damage without reprisal.

Round 1 HK and pals make there way toward the top right door of the middle room. I moved the Amanin Scout 18 to be adjacent to the door at the bottom of the room and swap for a Storm Commando to Blow the door. Rather than trying to engage first round, I decided to set up a trap, because I was pretty sure that Obi would bring his squad to camp in Gambit and rely on the high D droids to shield and block. Pell and the other Storm Commando set up camp in the bottom, Thrawn and the Commanders set up shop outside the top door of the room. Hopefully I could catch HK's squad in the crossfire.
Bastilla hid in the starting area and collected more FP's.

Round 2, as predicted the HK squad moves into Gambit and HK moves very far in to the bottom wall of room, with Visas Maar right behind for Bodyguard protection, trying to make the most of the Disruptive zone and blocks one square of the door with a Mouse Droid. I went around the mouse to base HK with my Imperial Dignitary. I also zip the Amanin Scout up and into the middle room at the bottom on the left. Guri jumps on him with her full movement, so she can't attack. IG-88 hangs back in the right entrance way. Obi out of Activations with most of the mice too far back to block and Bastilla still collecting FPs rather than meditating. Storm Commando hiding behind the Camaasi in the middle hall quads and eliminates the mouse droid with no cover. Put a little damage on HK which Visas Bodyguards. Thrawn swaps Commandos and get some decent rolls and put a little more Damage on HK, absorbed by Visas. Uggie opens top door, revealing Commanders.

Round 3. Init, I roll a 1. Obi tries to make the most of this by using Guri's double attack to kill my Amanin, who could have escaped with Wall Climber. My turn I open up with the Storm Commando on HK and get him down to 30 HP, while Visaas is down to 20. Tyber moves one square back to be able to ignore Guri because of Stealth and shoot at +14 for 60 at HK, which Visaas absorbs and dies.
HK considers his options, but can't get around the Diplomat and still shoot the Storm Commando, so out of frustration he marches up to the uggie in the door and kills him, Mouse Droid moves to Block. Weir one square out of Disruptive blows them both away, door closes. IG-88 takes advantage of the closed door to move where he can only see the Dignitary and shoots, missing by 1, thanks to Thrawn's now in effect CE. Obi said he should have Pulse Cannoned, but it was too late. Bastilla decides it's time to Meditate. Thrawn swaps Weir for Noble.
I move up the Gran to be in LOS but still have cover farther than 6 squares, Camaasi moves up to be between IG and Commanders. More Mouse Droids move in. Storm Commando runs up to IG-88. Juggernaut pops out of hiding to put 30 Damage on Weir.

Round 4
Storm Commando fires four and hits with 3 on IG-88 as the opening move. IG-88 hits back with a Crit and crushes the Storm Commando. Juggernaut Sonic Stuns Weir but the adjacent Storm Commando makes the save. Thrawn swaps the Camaasi, for the other Storm Commando, who blows away Guri. Bastilla runs up with FP so I don't have to go hunt her down. I believe Tyber finished off IG and another Mouse. Gran runs far away to the right side starting area behind the building.

The game lasted another couple of rounds of clean up and I got all of his squad but the Ugo, who hid at the top of the right side.

Over all it was a pretty fun game and I've got to commend Obi for continuing to play it out to completion.

Obikenobi1 defeats DieAndBeMetal

Score: 120 - 55

Map: Muunlist Square Plaza

Squads played were....

Obikenobi's squad:

--Seeing more Grey than Dark--
150 Gray Jedi x5
9 General Dodonna
8 Wicket
21 Chadra-Fan Pickpocket x3
12 Rodian Brute x4

(200pts. 14 activations)

DieAndBeMetal's squad:
-Mace and his Ladys-
65 Mace Eindu, LotLS
41 Atris
44 Echani HandmaidenX2
23 Foul Moudama
10 Figrin Dan
9 R2 Astormech
5 Rodian Diplomat
3 Uggie

The reason why the score is 120 to 55 is because of this: GRAY JEDI ARE BROKEN. This is one of the few peices in my opinion, that were poorly designed in the V-sets. And to prove this point, I made my squad to show why. My squad didn't kill a single mini of my opponents original squad.

:?

:o

Yeah, I didn't need to. I just did Dark Tempation on my Gray Jedi's one by one. Round 1, 2 of them turned to DieAndBeMetals squad. The remaining Gray's and Chadra Fan's slaughter the traitors. 60pts to me. Round 2 a third Gray Jedi fails the Dark Tempation save and joins DieAndBeMetals squad. My Chadra Fan's and other Gray Jedi kill it. 90pts to me. Round 3 I fail the save again on another Gray Jedi, but this time it isn't killed by the other gray jedi and my Chadra Fan's. So i deal 20 damage to it with one of my Chadra Fan's. It is now Init and it is the 4th round, and I have nobody left except for a lone 80HP Gray Jedi staring at the traitorous Gray Jedi that DieAndBeMetal unwillingly picked up. DieAndBeMetal needs 4's to hit, and he misses with 2 of the strikes but gets a crit on the last one. So my Gray Jedi is down to 20 hp. My last Gray Jedi's goes and scores a crit on his Gray Jedi and gets points. 120pts to me, and all my units have been defeated, so the game ends with me as the victor. During this whole match, it was a race against time for DieAndBeMetal to get to my guys in time before they kill each other. He got his Ecchani's close enough to kill my rodian brutes (3pt cannon fodder) and Dodonna. It took 3 rounds for him to do this much with his Ecchani's. On the 3rd round he got Mace finally close enough to kill Wicket and 2 Chadra Fan's.

So yeah, this has to be the biggest douchebag squad ever created. And sadly it does exist. I felt really bad playing it. But I played it to prove a point. The Gray Jedi were poorly designed. And this squad is proof of why. I'm not going to play this squad ever again against DieAndBeMetal or anybody else in this league. The game was won quickly and legally. It is a valid strategy to win, but it has to be the most unfair way to win. There isn't a piece made yet that can stop this insanity and even the massive movement breakers of DieAndBeMetal's squad could get his pieces to my crazed Jedi in time. DieAndBeMetal was a good sport about it, and I'm glad about that because I don't know if I could laugh about how just plain wrong this squad is. A win is a win, and Gray Jedi should be banned. Forever. I demand a recall on this particular piece from the V-sets. My squad could do 660 damage total if it really wanted to. Instead it focused all that damage at my own pieces that turned traitor. There is a reason why WotC never made Dark Tempation on a piece that was non-unique. And this is the painful truth of why. The best I could hope for is that the V-set Designers learn from this match and contemplate the implications of this. The sad thing is, there are 2 non-uniques with this Force Power. And both were made in V-sets. That this squad hasn't been played yet in a tournament is a good thing. Cause it would ruin the game, and make it unfair for every other opponent. Sure, it is a do or die squad concept, but 50% of the time, your going to fail the Dark Tempation save, and with 5 Gray Jedi's, statistic's work in cruel and unusual ways.

Were you attacking pieces with the gray jedis? Cause you can only use dark temptation immediately prior to an attack.

Wait, you were attacking your own pieces? I'm fairly certain you can't do that. And even if you could the game doesn't end until someone hits 200 points. So if you have 120 points he still could have ran up and killed the rest of your stuff and won. I'm confused.

So all your pieces were defeated? lol Then your opponent wins.

The primary victory condition in SWM is (and has always been) to defeat all of your opponent's pieces. Once someone's squad is entirely defeated, the other player wins the game, regardless of score. The only time that point scoring or gambit scoring comes into play is when the players run out of time; in that case the player with the most points has not earned a full victory, but has won the match on a tie-breaker.

As far as this league goes, your opponent should probably get a full 200pt credit (which is what you get for a concession) and you would get the amount of points that you scored in the match (120, if I read it correctly).

As for the brokenness of the Gray Jedi, I honestly don't know where to begin for a response, so I won't. I'll just say that, judging from what you've written, I think you probably don't understand the piece all that well.
