We are doing our TN Regional, June 29th. We are going to be hosting it at the Jamestown Park, we have reserved one of the shelters, so we will be grilling out during the tournament. Lots of refreshments. Registration starts at 9am, games start at 10am. Hope to see you all there!

I tried playing minis outside once. Pray for no wind, it makes playing absolutely aggravating.

Man, that sounds SO cool! Is that the first outdoor Regional in SWM history?

I think it's a great idea, as long as there is roof-shelter (because I wouldn't want to risk my stuff getting wet in the case of rain). I wish I could be there, and I hope you all have a great time!

Hey, that makes me think: we COULD do the Vassal Regional outside too...everyone just has to plug in their laptop to an outdoor outlet, and they'd be good to go! :P

You Should Try to get a Cheap or Free Venue as a Backup in case it rains. Great idea though. You might have people bring some lanterns just in case it is over cast or it gets dark before the matches end that way you would still have light. Also People should remember Weights For the Corners of their maps so they do not blow away if it is windy. You May not need them but it would be better to have them and not need them then need them and not have them.

Sorry if my comment about wind sounded negative. I just had a very frustrating outdoor minis experience due to wind and this gave me a sort of flash back.

I am stoked to see you guys having a regional. I wish it were in the cards for me to make it out there, but honestly, the chances are not good.

But the more regionals the better. And if you pull off a successful regional outdoors - even better still!

An outdoor regional...never thought of that. A good idea though, and more than a novelty. Many parks have pavilions which provide ample space for relatively little or no cost. Wind and lighting considerations may be issues in less than ideal weather conditions, but then other conditions like starting and closing times, limited store space, and other store restrictions are eliminated.

Great idea...I hope it's a big success.

The shelter, does have a roof, plenty of tables, lots of room. If it's a real windy day, we do have back up place to play, also we have an alternate option, a guy in our playgroup Trevor Cook is going to bring some plastic that can be taped up to keep the wind out if we need it.

The idea is just to have a laid back, comfortable enviroment, with great food, where we can all enjoy some Star Wars Minis. I've played out doors before, and if you are using a laminated map it's not bad at all.

Hopefully we will have no issues, and be able to play outside, and have some awesome grilled burgers and hotdogs throughout the day, with some chips and soda.

But just to make sure everyone understands, the shelter does have a roof, we do have an alternate place to play, and we have plastic sheeting to tape up if we want to go that route.

Hope to have a great turnout!

Are these special rules or something to counteract slow play? if so you need to let people know before hand.

new format is called Gladiators:

it is a melee based format where you chose 1 character wit a lightsaber and then we have come up with "equipment" such as ligthsaber crystals or armor that give the character new special abilties each equipment costs differently so that lower costing pieces can get better bonuses to compete with the higher cost beats.
At work or i would post more
