Greetings from Korriban!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Sith are rising and are seething with Force energy to announce that there will be a SWM 200pt constructed West Coast Regional Championship on Saturday, June 4th, 2011, 12:00noon, at the Clubhouse in Lakewood! This is definately the most significant SWM So Cal Event we have had here since several years ago when we had So Cal GenCon at the Anaheim Convention Center (Back when B&B was King of the Hill!) Myself and the guys at the Clubhouse are honored to host this years event and are really excited to welcome everyone on the West Coast, Nevada, and anyone else that wants to participate. This event will follow all the current competition rules set forth by the previous leader, Wizards of the Coast, to our new leaders of the SWM community still holding strong, SWM Gamers, which as everyone knows by now, released a phenomenal new virtual set called "Destiny of the Force"! Please join us in battle as we slash, Force push, lightning, grip, Sith sorcery, whirlwind, blast, grenade, missles, pulse cannon, atlatyl, razorbug, and thudbug the evening away. Hope to see everyone there............................May the Force be with us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Location:

The Clubhouse
12121 Centralia St
Lakewood, CA 90715
(CLubhouse is right in front)

Format: 200pt DCI Constructed, Restricted map list (see Updated Floor Rules for details)

Start Time: 12:00 noon (please come early so we can start on time)
Entry Fee: $5
Prizes: booster draft...

* The best airport to fly into that is closest to The Clubhouse is a smaller airport called Long Beach Airport ( A 10-15 min drive ). If you do plan on flying into LAX, the Clubhouse is approximately a 35-40 min. drive, depending on traffic. LAX has the best hotels close by (pretty expensive though). Another airport you can fly into would be John Wayne Airport in Orange County ( 20-25 min drive ). Here are a couple sample hotels you could stay at;

for Fri June 3- Sun June 5

La Quinta Inn John Wayne Orange County Airport

1515 S. Coast Dr. $57.00 a night ($125 total)

Vagabond Inn Costa Mesa

3205 Harbor Blvd. $53.30 a night ($115 total)

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to give me a call at 310-294-4644. Hope to see you all there!

Mel

Mel won with excellent play with his Lancer/Nute Gunray/Whorm squad!
Congrats on the win!

I came second with my Poggle Drone Missile squad:
36 Darth Sidious
32 B3 Ultra Battle Droid
27 Lobot
20 General Whorm Loathsom
17 IG-86 Assassin Droid x2
9 Battle Droid Officer
9 Poggle the Lesser
6 Ugnaught Demolitionist x2
26 Geonosian Drone x13

One idea being that you out activate, move up as many pieces to surround an enemy, then pawn a drone (who then becomes a missile takes 10 and hopefully detonates itself and others). Two opponents (both excellent players) were a little surprised at the Drone missles coming 24 squares across the board and blowing up three mouse droids.

One thought though, in the meta requiring 3pt wins to reach the finals, these swarm squads are at a big disadvantage. An hour goes by very fast when your moving 25 pieces. If you intend on playing a squad like this you have to move very fast.

Mel has all the squad info and I think he is going to put up the results.

I completely understand! At last year's Cincy Regional, I played a 43 piece squad (basically Ugs, Rodian Brutes, and Ewoks with Ithorian Commander+Han STA+Leia HC+Rieekan+Lobot CLO) and it took forever. My opponents would move pieces up and then sit back and let me rush forward. It definitely took a lot of time, especially since I wanted to keep track of my resurrections/evade saves for the fun of it. It was a blast and I actually won 1 game with only 1 game going to time.

That sounds like a fun squad to play. I thought 25 pieces was bad, I can only imagine moving 43!

Thank you for the compliment wannabemexican. Alas, I wont be able to go to gencon this year.
Also, let me give credit where credit is due. This is a variation off of Weeks Bomb bomb bomb bomb squad (go to bloomilk). His evil genius made me realize the power of Poggle.

Greetings from Korriban!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Sith are again rising to announce that the CA regional was a good turnout and everyone had a blast! We had 9 people show up and a great time was had by all! Here are the top 4 final standings and the teams that they played;

1. Mel Campbell (3-0) Whorm-Gunray-Lobot-Lancer-IG-86 x2 ( credit to timmerB123 )

2. Jeff Stewart (2-1) Whorm-Sidious-Lobot-IG-86 x2-B3-Ultra-Poggle-Geo Drones x13

3. Kyle Trujillo (2-1) GOWK-Doombot-Amidala-Cap Argyus-Senate Commandos

4. Mark Cartnal (2-1) Thrawn-Veers-Jabba-Atris-Echani Handmaidens x3

Thank you to all that participated. Due to unfortunate circumstances, 6 guys that had committed to coming, had last minute minor emergencies that kept them from the regional. I hope that The Clubhouse can host the CA regional next year and hopefully SWM will have virtual sets for many years to come............................May the Force be with us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
