well I am more of worrying about making sure everyone is having a good time. So I am not turning people away. Especially from a tourney. I dont see where adding people is going to make the event last longer. If they want to do swiss I am pretty sure that Aaron's 3-2 reporting software would take a team name instead fo a person and we can pair that way.

The only problem I see with that last statement is that it will only record 2 or 3...not 6 thru 9, which would be necessary? to account for each player's game within the round.

not really just account the point like this.

Team wins 2out of 3 games for the Team win. They get credit for a 2 point win.

Team wins all 3 games gets a 3 point win.

Boom you are good to go.

Without a round cap, it will last longer. 8 players (or in this case, teams) is 3 rounds. What's the cut-off for 4 rounds? Or 5?

I really like Lobo and TINT's suggestions that deciding matchups and such should be part of the 60 min match time. It will speed things up no doubt. This event is just a hard event to run in a time slot like what we have a Gencon. There is no simple solution to it at this point. Perhaps in the future we need to look at making it earlier in the day.

Why not just simply run this like all the other events at GenCon?? 4 Rounds of Swiss, and then at the end of it, the top undefeated teams get a certain prize, and then the teams that are 3-1 get something lesser. There should be only 2 teams at 4-0 after 4 rounds. I know last year the prizes were really awesome and required the face-off between the two teams. If that's going to be the case again this year, then perhaps plan to do the team face-off on Saturday evening after the Championships?

Jason, the key is just going to be in getting things moving QUICK. People need to be signed up BEFORE the 8pm slot. Try to track down team members earlier in the day and get them to fill out their squad sheets. Or even have them fill out the sheets during the first round of gaming. Set a 60 minute time limit for the round, and let that include all of the team's setup time as well. When you announce the pairings, give people like a minute to find their spot at the tables, and then announce that time is starting and they will have 60 minutes. Then you leave it in the team's hands to figure out their matchups quickly, get set-up, etc.

Agree with all this very much. Four rounds of minis at is enough for most anyone's night. Declaring them the co-winners could be fun (create some rivalries!) or just bring everyone out Saturday night to play the last two games (which would be fun cause everyone hanging around from the championship could form a huge circle and blow their vuvuzelas). As for keeping it moving, I think it is reasonable to expect every team to have three members, three squads, and three squad lists the instant everything begins. Just tell everyone that that is the setup. Having someone stand up on a chair and yell that anyone who wants to play in the team tourney needs to have a squad list already prepared every so often starting a few hours before the event. Yes there will be some genius who doesn't do it anyway, but you can make those teams play each other so no on else loses any time. Including the matchup-making in the 60 minutes game time is obvious and well-reasoned, too.

Teams will consist of 3 players each. Each player within a team will build a 200pt squad from a different faction. During squad building, unique characters with the same name can be used only once within in a team. Different versions of characters can be used by different players within a team. The Restricted map list will be used for this event.

So from my understanding only one player on a team can play Mas,Lobot and so on. But one player could play lobot from UH and Lobot CLO though. Well at least thats my understanding how the Unique rule works.

That is correct according to the way I read it as well.

Unfortunately this should have been figured out a long time ago. What it says in the event catalog is this:

"Unique characters of the same name can be used in your squad build as long as each player is playing a different faction." <Bolded for emphasis>

viewtopic.php?f=189&t=8693

So do we make a bunch of people mad when a team shows up with one rebel squad and one imp squad and you tell them one can't use Mas Amedda? I think you have to go with what the catalog says . . .

Agreed, if that's what the catalogue says we are obligated to more or less follow it.

Agreed. But unfortunately, a player can't use Mas Amedda in a Rebel squad anyway :D

Sounds like it, in fairness. Since the catalog says what it does, anyone coming in with just that and no access to gamers has to be allowed to play. So to prevent us (those of us who have seen this thread) from being at a disadvantage at that point we would need to follow those unique rules as well (the same from last year and the catalog)

Ha! I'm sure they would be mad . . . at themselves if they were as dumb as me!

Too bad about the catalog print. I liked the idea. In fact - next year I think we should take it one step further - ANY version of a character can't be used twice (No Han Scoundrel and Han GH!) It wouldn't effect that much - but it should be fun. We just have to make sure it gets into the catalog that way.

2 years ago a typo made TILE WARS 100pts, and we had to roll with it . . .

Post subject:  Re: GenCon Team Tournament Floor Rules V2.0

Look folks I know this seems annoying with all the replies but there are some simple things that need to be considered.

First off, I have to register events for Gencon like 6-8 months in advance to guarantee our space to use. So at the time I registered these events no one had conveyed to me there would be rule changes in mind. I appreciate everyone's suggestion on events but if you make them 2 months from Gencon I wont be able to implement them until the following year. It is not because I dont like your ideas but because I have to work way ahead of schedule to get these things set.

So like the Mystery Map tourney. That was Jim and I's idea coming from conversations right after Gencon. We thought it would be fun. So was Starship Battles. To add new events we must have a ton of notice. I already have a couple ideas for next year that I want to flesh out and it will take some time. But remember if you want to change an event you have a particular interest in you must tell me prior to March at the bare minimum.

Unfortunately over the last year some folks in this community have all but stopped communicating or think it is only prudent to communicate on Wizards. Well I have to say if you are wanting an event or a change to an event Wizards is not the place to hash it out with me. It is a dead site and I dont really feel the need to go back. I checked it the other day and mainly it appeared to now relegated to guys getting their last jabs in on the site. Oh well good for them.
I mean heck you can even get me via bloomilk. But if the only way you are willing discuss a Gencon event is via Wizards then it will be a long one sided conversation.

Again guys I am sorry if this seems that the Team event could have been better with the unique rules but again I can look at that next year but I have to have the information early.
