Post subject:  OP - who can play?

SOme of the DCI/SW floor rules prevent the Organizer from playing as well as the head judge.

I know that this rule isn't always followed to a tee, except at mjor tournments, but I think said people should be allowed to participate if they desire.

I've never ran a tourney large or small, but in the LGS ones I do go to, i do see the TO do things such as:
-registering ppl
-pairings
-recording wins/losses
-set up
-hand out loot

I can imagining that delaying the flow of small tournies, so I would like to have the TO and judges be allowed to play. One more person always makes the night better.

In the highly unlikely case of a TO cheating to win, or incorrectly reporting results then there should be a head of OP that someone can report to.

Also we'd need to be able to keep track of banned players (should there ever be any)

I think this is a good idea. I am sure it happens informally now, (I get to be the judge because I am a rules advisor) even though I play. The rule would just prevent people from having a false ID to create events and another to play.

I agree totaly Dean.

THE organizer should not take part, but judges should be allowed with the following stipulation, A judge is never allowed to rule on a game he's partaking in.

the only time I would see it as okay for a TO to participate if thier's two TO's in charge, and as long as the one not playing in a match does the reporting.. (aka, posting the results of that round) that wouldn't bother me, specially if the TO jumped in to fill out mins or to round it out to a even number of players.

I'm the other way on it. Judges shouldn't play because even if they don't rule on things in thier own game situations can come up where ruling one way in someone else's game might help them indirectly later in the tourny. I'm ok with the tourny orginizer playing if they're using the DCI program where the computer picks the matchups.

There needs to be someone not playing who makes the final decisions. Like the map issue though, I could easily see a particular group of friends who play together, allowing their judge to play while his wife is the official TO, and it would never be an issue. But officially, I don't want to change that rule.
