Ok well this was discussed last year after I had submitted the event. Any changes that are wanted need to be discussed prior to my submission of events to Gencon.

So get started

Well, is Bell even going to be running it this year? He was the one who had suggested the changes (which I forget what they were) and had mentioned to me that he may not be able to attne dGC anymore with his new work. I had intended to take this on, but Now I need to lead Team America into Victory over Team Canada.

Yeah, the only changes I knew of were the ones Bell had mentioned. I will see if I can find them

Edit: Here's the thread. viewtopic.php?f=189&t=9418

The only thing he mentioned was restricting the use of a Unique with the same name across the team. In other words, no team could do a NR squad and a Mando Squad with Jaina, SOTJ. I'm not a major fan of this rule, but can go either way I suppose.

Brad - I thought that was always a rule for the team tournament. Granted it has been two years since I played in it, but I thought that was a standing rule.

Nope, just same faction. So you were all able to use Lobot in your squad. I think he wanted to do this to get rid of Twin Dodonna but it has further reaching implications than just that.

I know the first year we ran Legacy of Skywalker as our theme, so we definately used Luke twice and Obi twice plus Lobot. Our plans last year for Bounty Hun10 had been all using Boba BH, but we went a different route in the end.

No, that rule was suggested for last year's TT, but we ignored the suggestion because the event descriptions had already been submitted (using the normal rules) beforehand and we didn't want to have any discrepancies. In both years, we had teams using Lobot in 2+ of their squads, or Dodonna (Rebs, NR), etc. The proposed rule about not duplicating Uniques was discussed a lot, but never actually adopted.

Personally, I think it's best to not place any such restrictions on squadbuilding. But I'm sure there will be others who think differently.

If the original intent was to prevent a 'Dodonna Fest', I think the new set will deter that sufficiently. Any team that bases 2 of its squads on the same character will be putting themselves at a disadvantage during the opponent selection process anyway, so I think its fine the way we played it last year.

Agreed. While I don't know if that was specifically his intent that was the example he used from Team Canada's first year squads.

Maybe instead of having it so that one two team members can use the same faction we should do it so that every team member has to run the same faction but make a cap of two of any unique for a team.

I would be up for a same faction Team tournament, but I think that's needs to be further down the road. I just don't think each faction has enough to do it that way yet, other than the big 4. And how would that work for non-unique dominant factions like the Seps, Mando and Vong?

I'm game with some sort of restriction on the Uniques. Though I would just say that two players on the same team cannot use the exact same Unique, a la Lobot. So for instance, one guy could use UH Lobot and the other guy could still use Lobot CLO. I don't know if I would go any further than that though. Other than Lobot, Dodonna, and Mas, about the only pieces that would actually be affected are Fringe. Maybe Jaina SOTJ, but I think people would be able to find enough other options instead anyways that having to play without her wouldn't be a big deal for most NR squads.

Outside of the Unique thing, I think the only things we really had to discuss at all last year were just around the ideas of what time to start, how long to make the rounds, and how to do the pairings. A big concern seemed to be how much time it took to run the tournament. It depends on how many teams we have, but the suggestion last year was made to cap the event at 48 players, that way we would only have 16 teams, and be able to have 1 4-0 team at the end of the 4 rounds. I'm not convinced that that would be necessary, but it's something to consider.

Yeah, I thought the TT at Gencon 2010 went very smoothly. The rounds were quick and well-organized, with very little wait-time between rounds. Part of that had to do with Jason Bell (successfully) insisting on players getting their full teams and squads to him BEFORE the event's start-time. As I look at the TT in 2011, I can't think of anything that would need to be changed.

Oh, and hopefully Team Canada wins again! :emperor:

Even with seps, vong, and mandos there are minis like GGDAC and Nom Anor that are used in most of the squads in that faction. You could also make it to where unique works across the board and each can only have one of each unique.

How it worked last year was fine, so unless we want to change the rules just for the sake of changing the rules or we want an entirely different event, I see no need to change them.

I don't think we need to limit players as we need to be able to accomodate any player who wants to play our game at any pt level or format. Last years went very smooth and was super fun.

Actually what made it go faster is I took the name of one player on a team and entered it like a regualr tourney and then just had the computer pair them.
