Gamers is proud to announce an exciting new format of play, and character design for Gencon 2011!
Epic Duos is a new format for play, similar to Dynamic Duo. It will be a squad of exactly 2 figures per squad totaling up to 200pts. Note - you do not have to be at 200 exactly, just 200 or less. Disintegration is treated as a normal critical hit, and any Tactician special ability is ignored. Players will only activate one character per phase. Time limit will be no more than 30 minutes. Otherwise, standard tournament rules apply.
Now, you may be asking yourself, "Well gee, there aren't many characters who can get close to 200pts in a combo of 2. How is that going to work?"
Introducing, the "Epic Mini Micro Set"! Gamers design team has been hard at work creating a unique set of 12 all new V-set cards of "Epic" proportions! These are the greatest of the greats in the Star Wars world, and these versions are meant to represent the best at their best. They will range in cost from 100-160pts, similar to Luke Skywalker Grandmaster and represent each character at the top of their game. We are doing 1 figure per faction, plus two extras, so that fans of any era have a beast to play with!
The cards are being professional printed, with an extremely unique look and feel. Anyone playing in one of our two Epic Duos tournaments at Gencon, will receive a full set of 12 professionally printed cards. Extra sets will be available after Gencon through league kits and other special arrangements.
For the Gencon tournaments, special rules will apply as well. Epic Duos this year, will be a quasi-sealed event. We will not preview any stats for these guys or the set list until Gencon - so it's a total surprise. You will need to bring with you a secondary character of choice to play with your Epic (Ray and I will have pre-made duos so anyone can play even last minute if needed). I will be at Gencon as of Wed afternoon, and anyone who wishes can find me and receive a copy of the Epic they will be playing before the tournament. Otherwise, I will hand them out as soon as you register, and you will have roughly 30-60 minutes to build your 2 person squad with what you have with you, or what you can borrow. Just before the tournament begins, I will hand out the full sets to all participants, so that you will have the actual card in hand of your Epic, as well as that of your opponent. The cards have a lot of text on them, so having the opposing mini will be of help. As for the Recommended mini, you will be able to use whatever you want for these events. If you get the chance to get your card early, that will make your life easier. When we get closer to Gencon, I will post in this thread the places and times I will be available for card pick up before the tournaments.
Prizes - Every participant will receive a full set of professional printed cards. The top 6 in each tournament, will receive a community created custom of one of the Epic characters! These are going to be one of a kind customs, 1 for each Epic card. Selection will occur in order of finish. Additional prizes will be made available as well.
Donations - currently on hold - but when we get the Paypal stuff figured out, I will report back here. We will need people to donate to help with the upfront printing costs. But, that information will come soon.
