REALLY like having the JC all in one day. Awesome idea. Only 125 points for the Sealed events? I don't know all the details for R&R yet, but doing 150 for DOTF seemed like too little in some cases. Other than Lackey, who was unlucky enough to pull Poggle and the Yammosk for his two rares, we didn't have anyone else play more than 8 pieces in their 150 point squads. Actually, Lackey still only had 9-10 I think. I'd be worried that at 125 points, people would barely be able to play their 2 Uniques. I guess we could always change the point total on the fly though. Not really a huge deal until you actually start the tournament. |

Not really a huge deal until you actually start the tournament. I pointed this out for our DOTF Sealed, but I would never want to go over 150 for a Sealed. There's no balance after that. The guy who pulls two big Uber Rares can still play his activations vs the guy who has nothing but activations because he pulled crap rares. 125....sometimes 150 balances that out. There's a tradeoff at that point. Play several good solid UC's and C's for activation control or play two big pieces and small filler... |

Oh, was definitely not advocating doing more than 150. I agree, 150 is a max limit for most sealed. I was just pointing out that with DOTF, if you only did 125, most of the time, you'd end up playing with only like 4-6 pieces at most, since so many of the C/UC were at least 13-14 points, and many were 20+. Not sure how R&R is shaping up, but I would expect it to be somewhat similar. |

Are you planning on having sealed tournies on any other days, or is Thursday the only day for them? |

Thanks Dean. It looks like a lot of fun I can't wait to go this year. I just hope year two is as fun as year one. |

Got a question that might be pretty stupid, but... How do we do a sealed tournament without the "right" pieces? I realize we should use old figs with the new cards, and that works great at home/locally. But at GenCon I only have a very limited supply of SWMs with me...only what I know I'll be playing in pre-constructed games. (I do carry-on only on the plane.) Therefore, how lenient are the proxy rules for these type of sealed tournaments? Because I may only have a Luke available to stand in for some Sith Lord or a Stormtrooper as a Vong. Pretty confusing for my opponent (and me). Or will I need to figure out some way to bring a bunch more minis with me if I want to do a sealed tournament? Edited to add: Thanks for putting up the Thursday schedule! I try to work the rest of GenCon around what SWM tournaments I want to do, so I can't wait for the full weekend schedule. |
