My local LGS has got the RPG books massively reduced in price, and I'm looking to get into the RPG game. If you could only afford 3-4 books, which are the best ones?

Thanx in advance for any help ;)

As a player or GM?

Core Book to start, Kotor if they have it, I like Scum & Villainy, Clone Wars and Jedi Academy. Threats is good to have for a GM.

A lot of it depends on what sort of characters you think you will regularly play, and what also what sort of campaigns. The new Unknown Regions is awesome if you like doing totally off the wall campaign stuff.

These are the most important ones, IMO, if you are doing a lot of...

Jedi - KOTOR, TFU, Jedi Academy
Soldiers - Clone Wars, GAW, Rebellion
Scoundrels - Scum & Villainy, Clone Wars, Legacy
Scout - Unknown Regions, S&V, Legacy, Rebellion
Nobles - Galaxy of Intrigue, and I'm not real familiar with these so not sure what else

Starships is really unnecessary IMO, unless you plan to do a LOT of space combat. Threats of the Galaxy is decent, but most of the other books cover a lot of the same stuff, so it's not that necessary either.

Honestly, if I had to choose 4, it would be Core, KOTOR, Scum & Villainy, and then probably Clone Wars, Galaxy at War, or Unknown Regions for the last one.

Aaron gave the best feedback for sure

Core, KOTOR, Scum & Villainy.

I still like Threats of the Galaxy as it adds the element of say a "Monster Manual" if you will for the GM. The main books do add a bunch of this information specific to the era/topic they cover. Threats is more broadbased.

Scavengers Guide to Droids and Starships are both specific to those areas and are not recommended unless you plan to go down those roads.

I really liked Unknown Regions and Galaxy of Intrigue, especially GoI. I found that it included a lot of options for new players (Scenarios and a Campaign at the end) and it covered the "darker" side of the galaxy reminding us that not every campaign needs to focus around core galactic events. I dunno, I found this book really solid.

Galaxy at War is still a solid book too though as well so I suppose.

Also, some I have done reviews on The HOLOCRON (there are 2 waiting to be proofed) but here is a link to the forum anyways: http://www.the-holocron.com/index.php?o ... &Itemid=85 . I only have a few up (2 still need to be proofed).

I agree with Lobo and Fool, and also thought Galaxy of Intrigue adds some interesting stuff, both from a player and GM perspective.
