In the campaign I'm running, i've had the PC level once per session.

per the rules, the player would get 5 or 6 plus half level in force points each level.
this can create issues as thsi lets players add a D6 to pretty much every attack.. and the force users to return Fps to their suites far too often.

So I'm looking to reduce the # of FPs that the PC gets. Not sure what the right number would be.

4? or maybe like 1/3 their level?

hmm maybe I'll do..
4 until 12, 5 until 15, 6 until 18, and 7 beyond.. gives them slightly more than a 1/3 without over many.

There is normally 2 or 3 combat encounters a night.. we love to fight!

Why not just follow the rules for gaining XP and leveling up? Typically with our group, it takes two sessions at least to level up. So at some point you might considering not letting them level up every session. That way you also have to learn to use the abilities you already have. That's half the fun of rpg sometimes, trying to make do with what you have, which is often less than you actually need for the situation. ;)

Another option is the Force Points per day rules in the Jedi Academy Training Manual, which basically gives PC a smaller number of force points which replenish after an 8 hour rest. I'm not sure of the exact numbers they get, though, so it might be a little low for your needs (especially if each session takes place over one day in game time).

All the already mentioned suggestions sound pretty good. if you use your own idea, though, and your players feel your being unfair, you could allow FP to stockpile to an extent, or a few to carry over to the next level.

So if youve got them getting 5/ lvl, and they feel it isnt enough for a tough fight, then they could save up to 5 extras from previous lvls, so when they do finally find that BBEG, theyve got 10 to use, etc.

Good luck :P
