So this is how my Regionals went. I don't remember a lot of the specifics, since it was over a week ago, but I'll try my best to get the highlights in there. The squad I ran was:
--Blunt Force Trauma--115 Grand Master Luke Skywalker
29 Ganner Rhysode
26 Kyp Durron
9 General Dodonna
8 R7 Astromech Droid
12 Ugnaught Demolitionist x4
(9 activations, 199 points)The main reason I went with this squad was because I thought I was going to see a lot of Lancer squads. Just my luck - there wasn't a Lancer in sight at Regionals! Ah well, it still was a lot of fun running this squad. Not a whole lot of tech, just straight-up smash-mouth damage. Capability of levitating GMLS in for his Triple/Twin, or Kyp for the Force Push 5.
Round 1 vs. Ed P.
Map: Rancor PitSo my first match of the day is against Ed P., whom I also played at the PA-MD Regionals. He's running a Grievous DAC squad with 3 Chameleon Droids and a bunch of Battle Droids. I start off on the side that has the little enclosed pen area (forget the name) and advance pretty carefully and slowly. My ugnaughts don't really do much in this match-up, so they just run up behind the central wall to get into position for maybe taking out some Battle Droids. Ganner uses a FP to move up 14 and into Gambit first round. The next few rounds, Kyp takes a pounding from Ed's twinning Battle Droids, and eventually dies without doing any damage (a theme for the rest of the day, I assure you). Ed positions the Cham Droids in a triangle, non-adjacent to each other, and I decide to levitate GMLS into position adjacent to the first two Cham Droids. He makes his mines save, and gets off 6 attacks on the Droids, killing one of them. Ganner takes a few licks as well, but hangs tough. Next round, Ganner levitates GMLS adjacent to the two surviving Cham Droids, and he takes out both of them. The whole while, GMLS is taking a beating. Dodonna pops out from behind a wall and takes out a Battle Droid. In the Final Round, I take out a couple more Battle Droids while Grievous and Gha Nachkt position to take some shots on GMLS. The round ends with Dodonna killing another Battle Droid, and then Gha Nachkt needing to crit to kill GMLS (who has 0 FP and 20 HP left), and he missed. Game goes to me, narrowly!
1-0, 2 pointsRound 2 vs. Evan S.
Map: Jedi Temple (I think)Evan is running a Rebel squad with Luke RC, Han Smuggler, Dengar, Juno, and other stuffs. Not gonna be a long report on this one, since not much happened. We were both extremely careful with our positioning, not wanting to give up any free shots. In the end, the only things to die are two of my ugnaughts, thanks to Juno, and we both have equal gambit. Evan wins.
1-1, 2 points.Round 3 vs. Sergio
Map: Jedi TempleSergio is running a Republic squad with Rex, Bacara, Jolee, Mothma, and Elite Clone Troopers. I make a really bad positioning mistake in the second round and Rex takes out Ganner, effectively neutralizing much of the offensive potential of my squad. Kyp and GMLS spend the rest of the match trying to catch up to some of his pieces, but to no avail. Sergio wins.
1-2, 2 points.Round 4 vs. Mike
Map: Ravaged Base (I think)Mike is running a Rebel Push squad with VAR, Luke HPU, new IG-88, and Yoda of Dagobah. Wow, this match really should have gone the other way, lol. Second round, Kyp is levitated adjacet to VAR and Luke HPU, and is summarily pushed by both of them. All he can do in his activation is run up and use Lightning on someone for 20 damage before he bites the dust. At first, I thought this was a really bad omen. Turns out, them using those FPs would help me out later. Next round I levitate GMLS adjacent to them and take out Luke HPU, I believe, and fend off shots from the rest of his squad. GMLS proceeds to tear through VAR, then Yoda, then IG-88, making key Pulse Cannon saves and doing his best to spend everyone's FPs so VAR can't get his Force Push off. Very good rolling on my part and a lack of Force Points dooms Mike. I win, total kill victory!
2-2, 5 pointsOverall Finish: 5th place out of 11Overall, I think the squad was solid, I just need to learn how to use Kyp more effectively. He only did 20 damage the entire Tournament, and if I had gotten off his FP5 in a couple of those matches, I could have ended up in the Playoffs. Ah well, practice makes perfect!
