No idea how many would have seen these already over on the WotC boards, but figured they were worth mentioning...
For our home games around here, we've been using a couple of sets of cards to add random elements to our games.
First up is a deck of Mission cards. Each player is dealt a random Mission at the start of the game, with different objectives, such as capturing an enemy character, 'escaping' from the map, retreiving a token, and so forth.
We also use a set of Random Event cards, which just add a little unpredictability to the game. Players are dealt one card per 100 points (or part thereof) in their squad, and keep them secret until an appropriate time to use them. Includes things like:
Fumble - applies damage from an attack to the attacker instead of the target
Shoot First - allows a character to get off an attack immediately before their attacker.
Jedi Meld - allows Force users to 'pool' their Force points ad powers for a single round
Clouded by the Dark Side - Force Powers cost one extra point to use
Apology Accepted - your character who just failed an attack roll is defeated, and another character makes an immediate attack
The Force is Strong With This One - Negates damage
It's a Droid's Lot - applies Damage from an attack to a nearby Droid instead of the original target
...and a whole stack more.
Some of them are a little less balanced than others... but we're not playing competitively, just for the fun of it, so these add a little excitement to the procedings.
