Post subject: | Rebasing A&E Question |
WotC never came through with the round base A&E reprint everyone was waiting for from the moment it was mentioned that would be the plan. These days pretty much all the VR's can be had for pretty cheap so I decided to go ahead an do it. I've never been much of a customizer so I was wondering what type of glue would be the best to use for rebasing from those that are more experienced. I've been using five minute 2 part epoxy which works ok, but the epoxy is very hard and the mins are soft and bendy so they will separate from the base without too much effort. Thoughts? |

I use Testor's plastic cement and it works pretty well. |

Super glue is always my weapon of choice. Though you might do better to get the fancy 'cyanoacrylite' at a hobby store. Basically still super glue, just with it's original chemical name. Those are typically a little higher quality, better holding glue than your regular 'super glue' from wal-mart. In general though, by cutting things and gluing them onto bases, you're creating a weak area, and they are likely to break at that point, no matter what glue you use. Pinning the pieces is the only other thing I think of that might improve their sturdiness. |

Plastic cement actually bonds the two pieces of plastic together very well as long as there aren't large open spaces between the two spaces. As I understand it, plastic cement actually slightly melts the surface it's applied to and fuses it to the other surface. It sounds pretty horrendous but it's not, I promise, lol. |

Sounds like a good plan, lol. My first custom job was to lop the lightsaber off a Youngling and put it on Grand Master Luke, and that turned out pretty well with the Testor's stuff. |

Question - why do they need to be rebased at all? |

By special request I am unearthing this thread from beyond the grave. Here are some shots of the end result. I omitted doing some of the set for various reasons. I am quite pleased with the results. |
