Post subject:  Darth Vader, Emperor's Servant

Customized stats for Darth Vader. I based this Darth Vader from Empire Stikes Back on the Star Destroyer with Bounty Hunters and Cloud City encounter with Han and Luke.

Quote:
Darth Vader, Emperor's Servant
Imperial

Cost: 49
HP: 110
DEF: 19
ATK: +11
DMG: 20

Special Abilities:

No Disintegrations - Suppresses special ability Disintegration.

Intimidation Living enemy characters within 6 squares get -2 Attack; save 11.

Cunning Attack This character gets +4 Attack and +10 Damage against an enemy who has not activated this round.

Lightsaber Duelist +4 Defense when attacked by an adjacent character with a Force rating.

Twin Attack Whenever this character attacks, it makes 1 extra attack against the same target.

Melee Attack This character can attack only adjacent enemies.

Unique (counts as Darth Vader)

Force Powers:
Force: 4
Absorb Energy Force 2, When hit by a non-melee attack, this character takes no damage with a save of 11. Remove damage from this character equal to the prevented damage.

Surprise Move Force 1: Once per round, after initiative is determined, this character can immediately move up to 6 squares before any other character activates.

Force Push Force 1, usable only on this character's turn: Adjancent target enemy is pushed straight back 6 squares, does not provoke Attack of Opportunity. If pushed into pit, character is defeated, save 6; characters with flight ignore this effect. Target enemy and each character in the pushed path is considered activated this round; save 11.

Wow, everythign we've learned about standard Darth Vaders is gone, but not bad. I actually like this vader a lot, it's a healthy spin off the normal ones.

I find it interesting that he has none of the normal Force powers, and normal SAs, but this is good. I would like to see an increase in hit points, as 'Darth Vader' from RotS had 140, I think, and he costed 45, I think.

Thanks for the input. Making custom characters makes me appreciate the design aspect of releasing a set. It's tough to balance the cost, SA, FP, etc while trying to improve a figure/gameplay, but not totally nerfing the usability of an existing character (Kudos for Rob and WotC).

IMO compared to "Darth Vader" and "Luke Skywalker, CoTF" this Vader's point cost for the stats may be within the ballpark. However, compared to JWM it's under cost. The reasoning for the SA and FP selection are based on:

No Disintegrations –Movie V when Vader’s states no disintegrations to Boba Fett on the Star Destroyer with the rest of the Bounty Hunters. Game wise to provide a new way of handling disintegrations.

Lightsaber Duelist – Movie V Vader’s and Luke’s lightsaber duel in Cloud City. Game wise as an aid for Jedi DEF.

Cunning Attack and Twin Attack to boost Vader’s damage potential to make him more playable for his cost.

Absorb Energy Force – Movie V when Vader deflects Han’s shots in Cloud City with his hands. Game wise to add DEF against shooters and to compensate for his lower HP.

Surprise Move – Movie V when Vader disappears and then sneak attacks Luke during their Cloud City fight. Game wise to add different mobility to Vader.

Force Push – I am not sure how the WoTC designers are going to handle this in the upcoming sets. I believe they hinted aspects of Force Push and Pull type of powers. So, this may need adjusting.

I was thinking of adding this SA as well:

It's a good idea, but it needs more clarifying. Do they make the save when Vader enters their range? Every turn? Just once? What if vader mvoes in and out of their range in one turn? Does this affect Savage characters?

And I don't see a base damage . . .

Not too bad. I think even that he could be 2-3 points cheaper

Oops. 20 DMG. Updated stats.

Ugh....Damage 0 strikes again!

Not quite. Don't forget cunning  10 DMG Vader stikes again.

Yeah you are probably right. The only issue I had was that he may make Darth Vader 47PT a little more obsolete.

I was thinking of when they are within 6 spaces of Vader and make an attack. Similar to Tarkin. However, the extra die rolling may be a nuisance. So, maybe the game designers kinda kept it simple with Tarkin's Doctrine of Fear.

Nice Vader, the only thing is I would make it that if you push them into the wall and not all 6 squares were used, they take 10 damage like the scenario rules.
