I've been wanting to play Vader's Apprentice lately but have been having a hard time find pieces that go well with him at the smaller point values. I'm playing in a 200 pt event coming up and was wondering if the community had any ideas of an effective and competitive squad featuring the Apprentice. Or, is this piece more or less a novelty piece and not really playable and likely to do well on a competitve setting? |

which apprentice, VAR or VAU? I have seen the rebel apprentice used well in some rebel squads. |

I'm talking about the Empire version. I have seen the Rebel version played well as well--but I don't have that piece. |

I had a squad built at one point to utilize VAU, but it's a bit dated now. It was an Imperial variant of Billv15's Separatist 'San's Legacy' squad. Here's the link to my squad on bloo milk: http://www.bloomilk.com/Squads/ViewSqua ... uadID=3417 Your best bet is likely to do something with Grand Admiral Thrawn where you can swap him around, or with Emperor Palpatine for the extra Force Points. Also, if you use Thrawn, a combination of VAU and a Storm Commando can be lots of fun, because when you win init, you let the Storm Commando unload on somebody first, and then you fry them with VAU's lightning, hoping that they fail the activation save. Then you toss in Piett or some Evo Troopers or something like that to take advantage of the extra damage on already activated characters. Just have to be careful that you keep VAU well-protected until you're in a spot to do a ton of damage with him. With his 19 Defense and low-ish HP, he won't last long once you expose, unless you can manage to swap him around easily. |
