What you've all been waiting for....

DCI didn't come through, so it was up to us....

I give to you....

New Tournament Software for running tournament utilizing the new 3/2/0 scoring system!

Attachment:
Tournament Software.zip

Note: you will need Microsoft Excel to run the file and you MUST 'Enable Macros' when it opens, or it will not work. If your version of Excel is set to automatically disable Macros, then you'll likely need to go in Excel to Tools > Macro > Security, and switch it to 'Medium' level. Then close the program and re-open it.

Now, I'm not 100% certain that all the bugs are worked out, and there still seems to be some issues with pairings among small groups (in particuar, trying to prevent matchups where people have played each other before). I'm going to continue to work on a more robust version of the program down the road, but the leap in programming required to make it work 100% of the time is pretty enormous from where it is right now. My brain hurts right now from trying to figure it out.

But this is at least fully usable, and hopefully not too hard for everybody to figure out. I've included a short document with basic instructions on how to use it.

If there are any questions, feel free to post them here. If you find bugs, there are instructions on where to send bug reports.

Good luck, and I hope this is helpful for everyone!

ok I have put 2 seperate downloads up for this on the main page under DCI Resources.

One is the Tourney Software and the other is the instructions.

So anyone needing to download these can find them on the main page if this thread gets lost

Haha, thanks! I'm really looking forward to hearing how well this works for everybody. I know there's still some issues with higher levels of pairings (mostly in round 4-7 or with low number of players), but I'm hoping that it will work well enough for everybody that it will be pretty painless.

Dean, I will definitely make sure I'm nearby throughout the GenCon weekend to help with any software issues during the tourneys. Again, I'll probably have my laptop with me, though we won't be able to use it for running the tourneys (work laptop, password protected, etc). Hopefully things will go quite smoothly.

I'm excited to see if any of you notice the couple of 'easter egg' type things I've added. I want to do some more things like that over time. :)

I ran a 6 player sealed event today using your excel sheet. The only problem I had was that I typo-ed in the name field and realised it after the first pairing. I ended up typing over the spelling error in the paring to get the final standing to work right.

Yep, that should work just fine! Glad it worked out for you.

I ran a simulated 5-round tournament with 30 players, and it seemed to work mostly fine. The only problem I had was that in Round 5, two people were paired with the same other person, so I had to go in and manually fix the pairings to make sure everyone was matched with just 1 other opponent. Not sure why it did that, but it didn't seem to be a huge deal, I don't think. Thanks for the software, it'll make running Regionals much easier!
