So here were my games. My squad consisted of: 6th Dennis Beard Map: Hall of Judgement Obi-Wan Jedi General Qui-Gon Jinn Jedi Master Captain Rex R2 Astromech R7 Astromech Ugnaught Demolitionist x2 Mouse Droid Gran Raider Camaasi Noble Captain Panaka Mas Amedda (Btw, special thanks to DEAN MILLER for helping me with some final details in squad design/map choice here. Jedi Temple was totally the right call, as was the recommendation to ditch the Kel Dor Bounty Hunter for an R7 and a Camaasi.) Round 1 was vs. Matt Spry 12th Matt Spry Map: Muunilist Commerce Plaza Emperor Palpatine, SL IG Tarkin Capt Rex Com. Cody Admiral Ozzel Mas Amedda Thrawn Ugh Demo x3 He won map roll and we played on his map. Personally, this is my least favorite map of all the ones available at 200. I knew that SL Palpy would be a problem for Obi. He also had tempo control, but I've played against that enough times now that I know how to overcome it. A pair of well-planned swaps and some easy moves and I quickly had Obi and Rex decimating his back row of commanders, starting with a 6-shot blast against Thrawn. Tarkin fell fast, and Palp took quite a bit of damage, leading Matt to pull him away from the front line. Once I had the point lead and Thrawn was out of the game, I believed I had it in the bag. I brought Panaka up to bodyguard for Obi-Wan and headed for the middle to score some gambit. My mistake came in trying to position the fodder in a way that would force Matt to target Obi-Wan with his attacks. Instead, he outmaneuevered me in a stroke of genius and started cleaning up on the fodder instead. He was rolling hot on attacks, too. When time was called, Obi-Wan was at 30 and Palpatine was at 10. He had enough to lightning Obi-Wan, but if I had won initiative I could have won the game. 0-1 Round 2 vs. Michael Garrison 23rd Michael Garrison Map: Muunilitist Commerce Plaza Gen Madine Rebel Commando Strike Leader Vet Rebel Commando x4 ERC Gen Dodonna Gen Rieekan Bothan Noble Obi Force Spirit Han Solo, Scoundrel I won map roll and he set up inside the temple. I used R2 and R7 for door control, and then swapped Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon around with Panaka mid-game. Somewhere around round 5 or 6, I swapped Rex with the Camaasi and based Han before he could activate, and killed him. Afterward, Michael worked hard to hold init with Recon from Rieekan, but the trade-off was that I was able to position Rex to where Rieekan was the only target because of the SS Commandos. Once Rieekan was dead, the only thing left to do was mop up the commandos with Obi and Qui-Gon. 1-1 Round 3 vs. Tyler Winn 16th Tyler Winn Map: Ravaged Base Luke Rebel Commando Han Smuggler ERC x3 Gen Dodonna Gen Rieekan Gen Madine Princess Leia Rebel Commando Strike Leader R7 Ugh Demo x2 Mouse Droid x2 I again won map roll, but this time started inside the temple. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan went out onto the hangar deck and sliced through the ERCs, while Rex hung back and shot at Princess Leia and General Rieekan. Han came up for some key shots, but then the jedi went after him as well. 2-1 Round 4 vs. Richard Winn 17th Richard Winn Map: Chancellors Starship Gen Wedge Antilles Kyle Katarn JBM Kol Skywalker Luke Force Spirit Lobot CLO Lando DS TBSV Gen Dodonna Ugh Demo x2 Mouse Droid x3 I lost map roll and so we played on Starship. Richard set his figs up on the back side of the throne room and I started in the cargo hold. This game also went to time. Richard was reluctant to rush me with his lightsaber figs at the end of the round, and so I just held Gambit in the center most of the game. Near the end, I made an 18-square move with Qui-Gon, using Master Speed, to reach his Dodonna and Wedge, then swapped Obi-Wan in for some lightsaber action. Richard could have stopped the swap, but he decided not to move Kyle before I could make the swap out of concern that I would swap Obi-Wan into a different position Kyle was protecting. It was a tough call. When time was called, I had the point lead and Rex was safely behind a closed door in Richard's starting area. 3-1 At no point was Flobi (as some call him) ever in any real danger of being defeated. Perhaps if I had lost the final initiative against my first opponent and he had been able to pull off a lightning strike, but then again I had Surprise Move and I could have just run away, forcing Palp to target Panaka for something like that instead. If I had been a little less cautious and over-protective in my first game, I would have had a much different outcome. Still, a 3-1 record, 6th place finish in a crowd of 25 solid players is nothing to be disappointed about. At the end of the tournament, I presented a Felucian Warrior on Rancor to Graham Bingham as a Sportsmanship Award. Bingham drove by himself from Atlanta and back in a single day to attend our event, and was a gracious and friendly player during his games at the event. Congratulations Graham! Thanks again to everyone who attended and made our event such a success!!! |
