Since WotC forums are about to be down for a week, it seems like this is the best place to bring up this discussion?

The new FAQ has made the change to LOS through beveled corners official...

Quote:
Q: Can you clarify how line of sight and cover are determined?

A: ...

Line of sight exists if the attacking player can trace a line from any part of the attacker's space to any part of the defender's space without crossing or touching a wall. This means that a traced line doesn't provide line of sight if it even nicks the corner or runs along the edge of a wall. (Note, a wall square with a beveled corner is treated just like a normal wall that extends to the corner. Tracing line of sight through the small cut off area is not allowed.)

On Teth Monastery, there are two spots on the right edge of the map where four squares (divided into two 1x2 square alcoves, one at the top, one at the bottom) are accessible only through a double-beveled corner. In other words, while it's possible to move through the gap created by the bevels, it's impossible (under the new FAQ) to attack through the same gap, because there is no LOS.

So on Teth Monastery, it is possible to stash a commander or other survival-critical piece in a way that it cannot be approached (because it's blocking the gap) nor attacked (because a LOS cannot be drawn through the gap.

The only exception might be 'area of effect' powers which count range, but do not require LOS. Would an ability like Kohoun Infestation be able to effect a target that is hiding in one of these alcoves?

Whether it can or not, is the fact that it's possible to place any medium/small figures on this map in such a way that they are effectively immune to any sort of normal attack without any special squad or figure requirements enough reason to remove the map from DCI play?

Are you sure this is a change? I guess the rule has been that you could draw LOS through the cut-off corner portion, but you could only attack if the line only nicked the corner?

I guess we'll just have to wait for NickName to issue a new LOS/Cover guide.

I am certain that the FAQ entry on this changed.

I checked the new FAQ vs a printed copy of the prior FAQ. The spot I highlighted in the new text previously stated that a LOS could be drawn through the point of a beveled corner, and did not say that a 'beveled corner is treated like a normal wall that extends to the corner'.

In discussions prior to GenCon, it was made clear by NickName that a change in beveled corner LOS was coming.

Cool, so it sounds like even the whole "if it nicks the corner of a beveled square, and ONLY that corner, then you can fire along that LOS" may be changed now too. Will have to get his confirmation on that. Good to have this sorted out. Defeinitely sounds like the way we've been playing it locally has been the intention all along: beveled corners ONLY affect movement, and nothing else.

It is made pretty clear in this part:
Quote:
Q: How do beveled corner squares affect line of sight?

A: The do not affect line of sight at all. They affect movement. They are treated exactly as if they are normal corners in regards to line of sight, including the situation where there are two beveled corners directly opposite each other across a corner. In such cases characters don't have line of sight even if it looks like they might count as adjacent. They are not adjacent, do not have line of sight, cannot attack, and do not give up attacks of opportunity.
