I bring up this topic in this venue because I think its relevant to tournaments. This happened in a tournament. I had finished my first round match and decided to watch another match-up. One gentleman, in the other game, was using an Ithorian Commander and some WooFFs (Wookiee Freedom Fighters for those who don't know my nickname for them) and was putting the CE to their damage. He had them doing 40 damage. And, I, by impulse, chimed in that they don't work because they aren't melee. He looked at his card and looked at his opponent. I could see he was mentally kicking himself for making that mistake. It was an honest mistake. It would be like forgetting that the new Gungan Artillerist isn't melee despite virtually all of the other Gungans being Melee. Or like me forgetting that Boba-Merc Commander doesn't have Evade despite the two versions that I play often do. So, he worked out a deal and conceded the match to the other player as a gesture of good will. He was winning but he didn't want to win that way.

But that leads to the question, what is the best time to point out that the interactions don't work that way? If you aren't in the match, do you wait until the match is completed or do you just chime in and point out the mistake? I know in the big tournaments that these mistakes aren't tolerated that well as the smaller LGS stores. Usually there's a coordinator that can answer your questions. I know the rules although I do get a little scatterbrained on some interactions (The order of doors vs End of Turn abilities, When Shatterpoint is relevant, etc.). So, I apologized for chiming in and pointing that out because I wasn't running the tournament this time. I was a player and it was the first time at the venue. I think I annoyed people talking about a 200 pt army I created when the new set arrives so that's a strike against me.

But, how do you handle these situations?

If someone doesn't know the rules or whatever, you should bring it up. Ignorance is not an excuse to steal a win, IMO.
