I haven't had this problem of the game, or my opponents, getting boring. But then, I have no RL opponents. I only play on Vassal.

You know what though? I've been thinking about this all morning, and I think 100 point squads, and to a lesser extent, 150 pointers, have actually increased in variety. I may be wrong on this, because I only play on Vassal and not at an LGS, but at least on Vassal, I've seen a lot more variety for those points.
