Please find herewith with 9 months late (big pbr of computer and internet Box) :

Here is your official report for the Star Wars Miniatures France/European Championship of 2010!

Like last year, players began arriving in the hall early that morning, in order to install, fill out their squad sheets, discuss possible matchups, and try to figure out how to beat the German’s delegation which is fear. The new 200 pt format and scoring system introduce more diversity in the teams than last year. This was the 2nd year where a Standard map list was in place

49 players turned up for the Championship this year, a slight fall from last year (64), but still a very good number, especially considering the number of players the Community has lost since WOTC’s announcement to stop producing the game. This number is good and the same that for the 2007 Championship, with a 8 German’s players.

Very soon, pairings were produced, and the first round of matches began! With 49 players total, we only had to do 5 or 6 rounds of Swiss this year. Due to the new scoring system, it was determined that you need to win 4 games or 3 games in 3 points in order to have a shot at the Top 16. Nearly 50% of the Games finished with 2-point wins (76% at the Gencon 2010).

When the dust settled, here are the ones who came out on top 16:
1. Prein Xavier
2. De Nadaillac Yves
3. Reppel Daniel
4. Scholze Sébastian
5. Janouschewski Rémy
6. Pohlig Laurent
7. Sutter Alexandre
8. Wellnitz Oliver
9. Drouot Thomas
10. Treu Roman
11. Laurent Alexandre
12. Saluzzo Jean Michel
13. Janouschewski Fabien
14. Omont Sébastien
15. Bordone Romain
16. Pontarlier Arnaud

The factions in the top 16 were :
• Rebel 6
• Empire 4
• New Republic 3
• Republic 2
• Old Republic 1

Here some general statistic:
• Total number of players: 49
• Number of players which dropped: 0
• Total number of games played: 125
• Games finished with 3-point wins: 56
• Games finished with 2-point wins: 64
• Total number of Byes: 5
• Highest Opponent’s Match Win %: Xavier Prien 76% (Faced 3 opponent of the Top 8 et 1 of the top 16)
• Top 16 standings were determined very easily by Total Points, Match Win %, and Opponent’s Match Win %.
• Faction break down for all the squads were as follows:
 Rebel : 14
 Republic : 13
 Imperial : 6
 New Republic : 6
 Separatist : 4
 Old Republique : 2
 Mandalorian : 2
 Sith :1
 Yuuzhan Vong: 1

 Light faction : 35
 Dark faction : 14

The rebel are again the more faction played, but less than last year and nearly equal with the Republique. Nevertheless, the light faction is more played (71% vs 66%).

All following squad stats exclude any Reserves/Reinforcements pieces. I only had the submitted Squad Sheets to pull this data from. For instance, I would expect a lot more than 49 Mouse Droids were used in the squads, but it depends on he Reinforcement choices. In addition, I was missing two squad sheet (Cédric et Julien).

• Total number of pieces used in the tournament : 574
• Total number of different pieces used: 123

• Most used Uniques :
 General Dodonna 19
 Lobot 18
 Mas Amedda 15
 General Rieekan 13
 R2-D2 Astromech Droid 11
 Gha Nachkt 9

• Most used non-Uniques :
 Ugnaught Demolitionist 76
 Mouse Droid 49
 R7 Astromech Droid 21
 Rodian Brute 14
 Elite Rebel Commando 12
 Jedi Battlemaster 12
 Jedi Weapon Master 12
 Gran Raider 10
 Bothan Noble 9

• Commanders made up 22.8% of squads, with a total of 40 different models. The top used Commanders were/
 General Dodonna 19
 General Rieekan 13
 Bothan Noble 9
 Princess Leia 8
 Captain Panaka 6
 Thrawn (Mith'raw'nuruodo) 6

So, some key things to take away from all this data?

Rebel
All of them included General Dodonna. This year, there was more diversity than last year, with only 2 teams with the Snowspeeder versus 6 in 2009. Here the teams which arrived on the top 16 :
• 2 teams based on the team who win the Gencon US 2010,
• 2 originals teams created by Jean-Michel and Alexandre.
• 2 Germans teams very different but which obtain the best result. The only share point were a lot of activations and Bothans Noblres.

Republic
There were 12 Republic squads, but only 6 Yoda on Kybucks in play, and 3 with only Jedis. This continues to show the Republic versatility, as they were the faction represented with the most different types of squads. Even the Kybuck squad did have diversity, ranging from General Skywalker, to General Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Plo Koon, Jedi Master ! Only one of them was the US version and finished 2nd in the hand of Yves!!

Empire
All 6 Imperial squads included Thrawn Mith’raw’nurodo, continuing to show his value to the faction. 2 of them included a Dark Vader, the others were with Cad Bane. All of the teams with Cad Bane have finished on the Top 16. There were 2 schools : The German based only on Cad Bane but with a lot of activations (25 before the reinforcement of Lobot), and the French based on Cad Bane + Arica. All the mirror match turn on the advantage of Cad Bane + Arica.

New Republic
All but 1 NR squad included Kyle Katarn, Jedi Battlemaster et le Général Wedge Antilles. And all of them included general Dodonna. 3 teams on 6 arrived on the top 16 with two of the 3 with Ganner. This faction is always a gatekeeper.

Separatist
IG Lancer Droids were used in 4 out of 4 Separatist squads, but only one them included Darth Sidious.

Old Republique
The team based on 7 Jedi Battlemaster arrived on the Top 16 with 3 full-victories !

Mandalorian
Mathieu le Tessier arrived this year with a original team. After the wookies commando in 2009, he played scouts leaded by Boba Fett !

Sith
Only one team played by Tanguy who last year arrived in the top 16 with his Wookies Elite Trooper. This year, he played Darh sidious, Sith Master et ses 2 Sith Heavy Assault Droid.

Yuuzhan Vong
Nothing to say.

Fringe
Obviously, based on the stats above, there were still a very fair number of Fringe pieces in use. Pieces like Cad Bane, Boba Fett BH ou Dash Rendar continued to show how powerfully they could be used.
Nevertheless the “tech” pieces were the most used, with Lobot, followed by Gha Nachkt for unique. About the non-unique, 3 pieces showed to be dominant: the R7 Astromech Droid, Ugnaught Demolitionist and the mouse droid…

Great report. It's interesting seeing this all as it is 9 months old. It sure looks similar to results in our last GenCon in many ways. I'd love to see more specifics on squads - especially the top 16 (or at least top 8)

I really enjoyed last year's video (well I guess the year before's now) that was made about France vs Germany as the rebels and Imperials. Don't suppose another one is coming?

Also - very curious to know if Europe is in general using the V-Sets now. I know that this tournament was pre-V-Set, but I'd be interested to see what the meta is in Europe now if it is being used.

Well GenCon - I guess 49 is the number to beat. If we are going to continue to have the largest SWM tournament in the world, and therefore legitimately call it the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - we have to top 49.

I do hope some of our European friends can make it out to GenCon.

:)

Well, we beat it since it was last years...but I guess we'll have to see what happens next week. ;)

Great report though.

The guy running 7 battlemasters is just hilarious. Drop 1-2 of them and add bastilla and that's even better!

Totally - that's 770 hit points you have to chew through. It might be hard to get 3 point wins, but it's a brilliant spoiler squad - if you're going to run a swarm of non-uniques, it's hard to top that.

About the next French championnship of 2011 the format is not yet decided. The options are :

1) 200 points with somes fig forbidden (dodonna, ozzel, san hill, yodabuck, IG-Lancer, Mas Amedda, General Riekaan, General Wedge Antilles, GOWK) and the special rule : The rapport of Gha Nackt doesn't work with the mouse droid !

2) 200 points with the virtual set (like you ! :) )

3) 200 points with the virtual set and somes Figs Forbidden...

4) A new idea of ADX :D

We are testing the differents formats...
The answer in some few weeks.
