In the interest of playtesting the previewed V-set pieces, I figured I would start a thread under each point category in which players can put what they think are the top squads at that point level, so people who are interested in playtesting can have some idea as to what the 'meta' is right now, for each different format.

Yes, I know, someplace in here, there is a "Squads to beat" thread, but those are all dead, to my knowledge, and ive found people generally respond more to new threads more than to revived dead threads.

Anyway, post here with whatever you think is top tier or close to it for:
200pt constructed
200pt Tile Wars
Fantastic Four

Post map selection and preferred side if you would like to. The point is to make it as tough on the V-set pieces as possible to see just what they can really do in competitive play.

Also, if that list of Gencon Champs squads ever gets posted, someone please link it here, lol.

Top "meta" squads are IMO when boiled down Either Tempo Control or Crowd Control.

Tempo Control: High activation squads with heavy hitters using one of San Hill, Admiral Ozzel, or General Dodonna. These Squads all run a little differantly but the basic idea is the same activate one till your opponent is out then move your pieces for a late round strike or to set up a early round strike the next round.

Crowd Control: Squads that use speed and the SA's Strafe Attack or Galloping Attack. These Squads are disigned to kill the small activations and wear down the enemies heavy hitters. They do this in differant ways but the main idea is to kill the activations that control doors or can be used as just act fodder.

Top 8 at gencon were these in no particular order
1 General Dodonna Han Cannon Squad (Rebel)
1 General Dodonna Landspeeder Cannon Squad (Rebel)
3 Yobuck Squads (2 Skybuck, 1 Beefbuck) (republic)
1 Thrawn/Admiral Ozzel/Lord Vader Squad (Imperial)
1 Double Lancer Pawn (sepratist)
1 General Dodonna Kyle/mara lob squad (new republic)

8 top squads at gencon 4 tempo, 4 crowd control, 5 differant factions.

Any of those are a good place to start but the 2 ideas up top i gave you can be built into any number of squad types and ideas. The squads i gave are just a referance of what was used this year and worked.
