I figure that most folks will go directly after Mothma, Yularen, Mas rather than taking on the Commandos first. That way, they run little to no risk of the death shot. Since the commanders are rather fragile, especially against Lancer and Yobuck, I felt a bodyguard would help keep them around longer. Also, since the ESG can do 50 damage on the death shot at a +12 ATK, the Lancer play might think twice at going after the commanders since it could potentially be defeated by the BG. Yobuck is another story as its hitpoints are massive compared to the Lancer, but there they could take 40 damage from an AoO from the ESG on the first gallop, and a 50 damage deathblow on the third assuming they are using General Skywalker. Overall, I just didn't want the Lancer/Yobuck player to take out my commanders without paying a penalty.

The squad is very fragile, and without Mothma and Yularen it will fold like a house of cards. The ESG is taking up points that could be filled with another commando, and if an argument can be made that that is the better option then I am open to it.
