So I wanted to build somewhat of a themed squad centered around the sparti clone trooper demolitionist (rookies). I know it's not near a top squad and yobuck and lancer would rip it apart in one round but wanted to put smthin together that could be fun to play in a laid back fun environment. So what do you think?

Supreme chancellor palpatine. 37
queen amidala. 16
comander gree. (19)
elite clone commander. (13)
rookies x 19. (57)
clobot. 15
mas. 8
r2 doombot. 9
yularen. 21
rodian diplomat. (4)

28 activations
with palpatine and amidala in there my rookies are only costing 3pnts each and their getting +4 def from the elite commander, +4 atk from squad assult from gree and mobile and opportunist to go along with their +2, +2 from the rookie special ability. Hopefully roll an 11 or 20 with recon from clobot and bring in even more activations. It could take a long time to play with so many activations but that's why it's in a fun environment.

Mothma would give them deathshots, which would serve as an excellent counter to Strafe/Gallop, and she also has a Republic Reserves (on a 20) option, which would mean even more rookiees. To make that happen, I'd suggest dropping Clobot, and finding another 5 pts somewhere to drop. You'd be losing almost no attackers, and you'd be gaining a whole lot more shots. It would also keep with the theme/style of the squad.

Here's the version I used in playtesting, was absolutely fun and brutal.

--Rookiees--
40 Plo Koon, Jedi Master
23 Mon Mothma
21 Admiral Yularen
16 Queen Amidala
26 Czerka Scientist X2
9 R2-D2, Astromech Droid
64 Spaarti Clone Trooper Demolitionist x16

(199pts. 23 activations)

Alternately, can forgo second czerka for 3 more clones, but I found having two helped protect the first one better, and relegated a BG to less important.

I never think Palps is worth it :)

As for Gree, good figure, but you are better off going with death shots, more clones, and twin.

My squad's almost the same as Bill's but minus the Czerka and a couple Spaartis and plus Cody. Because why not? Lol. In addition to the clones getting Deadly and Flurry, Cody ends up with Accurate and Jolt, which I love as a combination.

--Spaarti Swarm--
40 Plo Koon, Jedi Master
23 Mon Mothma
21 Admiral Yularen
20 Clone Commander Cody
16 Queen Amidala
13 Czerka Scientist
9 R2-D2, Astromech Droid
8 Mas Amedda
48 Spaarti Clone Trooper Demolitionist x12

Preferred Reserves:
(Mon Mothma) 20 Spaarti Clone Trooper Demolitionist x5

(198pts. 20 activations)

I never thought of throwing two Czerkas in there to make sure they get their Twin. I'll have to play both!

Mas is supposed to be in there :)

Edit, just made a bloomilk version, but the rapport doesn't work, so I forgot Mas. Doing the math, need to drop 2 Clones for Mas, and still at 199 :)

Well that could certainly cause a player to rethink a strafe or gallop.

Yeah, that squad is the perfect counter to Gallop/Strafe squads. They really can't do anything about it if you protect Mothma/Mas correctly.

Well with all the new maps coming I dont think hiding Commanders will be a problem. There are a lot more hiding places overall on a lot of the custom maps.

For strafing it would be just like playing against Nom Bombs. Tough matchup but not unwinnable. Actually I think Death shot could be easier because you can pick off one at a time. The problem with any deathshot squad is that you need the people to die. Also very hard to protect Mon Mothma because you have to be able to count squares and if you can count to me than I can count to you and can probably get a strafe or gallop off.

Yes, you'll surely be able to reach Mothma/Mas...but will you be able to do it without having to strafe over the 2-4 rookiees that guard the last 2-3 squares of the only route to her/them? With two Opportunist deathshots (that's 4 shots if a Czerka is nearby) per rookiee , it is extremely unlikely that the Lancer will survive long enough to strafe the commanders. It would certainly be an interesting and tactical matchup, but I think the rookiees would probably win 80% of the time.

well with 14-16 troopers you should be able to keep a few back around mon/mas or add in a mouse droid for round 1,2 so you can setup your troopers.

against this you use the most usefull figure in the game. Caamasi Noble. run the noble up kill the rookiee they cant take their death shot.

Caamasi Noble, best fodder in the game.

Except that if your opponent has their commanders hidden properly, they might not be able to draw to anything except the Camaasi, which then gets slaughtered.

Besides that, Im failing to come up with anything you could put in a Lancer/Yobuck squad to give the Camaasi the ability to kill anything. Could just be having a brain fart, though.

I think he means that you have the Caamasi run up adjacent to the Rookie, then have another shooter come up and kill the Rookie, who then can't get off his death shots.

Yes, but there are 2 problems:
1. It will only work if you kill the rookiee with a non-adjacent attacker. If you kill the rookiee with an adjacent (ie, a melee) piece, then both the Caamasi and the attacker are adjacent to the rookiee, and so the rookiee can choose to shoot the attacker. Therefore, Gallop/Strafe squads still have no way around the deathshots because they must be adjacent when they make their kills.
2. These death-shot-rookiee squads have 10+ rookiees, and no squad in its right mind will have even close to that many Caamasi nobles. So you can survive a couple of shots this way (basing the noble to a couple of rookiees at once), but those nobles will die. Either the shooter or another piece will stay out in LOS to keep Diplomat active (getting shot to pieces from the rookiees), or a mobile shooter will hide out of LOS after shooting, which will leave the noble as a legal target for another rookiee to kill.

It seems to me that one of the best counters to a rookiee swarm might be the OR. Bastila's ABM will turn the rookiees into helpless kittens. And the OR Senators will serve as super-nobles, because they nerf the death-shots while granting shots of their own. The OR just needs a good accurate shooter (without Splash! and preferably with evade) to make this trick work really well.

You get 4 nobles from lobot. figure killing 4 of them softens them at least a little. Then anything that hits group would work well.

There's no question that Caamasi Nobles would be a huge help.

And yeah, multiple-target damage is handy too...especially when it's on an inexpensive piece. I remember in playtesting when I used my Sith Acolyte (after Revan's swap) to Repulse and kill 4 or 5 of your rookiees. After killing them, I wasn't too concerned if my 21pt piece died. Swapping in a Zabrak Fringer would be a nice touch too (less costly).
